    I'm an E-1 right now.
Working on studying for the START Guide.
Getting tested on the whole book by my next DEP Meeting 20130612.
Once I pass the test I'll be promoted to E-2.
    (Guaranteed.)
Hopefully I can get some referrals and get promoted to E-3 before basic.

I enlisted/shipped out to Great Mistakes in November of 1996. After completing Intelligence Specialist (IS) "A" & "C" schools, I made it as far as 2nd Class before "going to the dark side" as an Intel Officer (commissioned January 2000). Left active duty in January 2010, but immediately affiliated with the Reserves, again as an Intel Officer. Will hit my 17 year mark (total service) in November, with 3 years until I can hang it up

I was offered a bonus if I went IS but I didn't want it (as well as officer).. my dearest hope is to get on the K9-unit after A-school & either way.. I'm going to be making more then I ever have so why not do something I love & did when I was a kid too?

dirtyd89 the start guide is a pretty good go-to. One of the guys I swore in with (& who I work out with) is going in as an E1 for IT.. I'll have to ask my recruiter if they do that as well -- pass the Start-guide tests & rank up -- I'm sure he'd be happy!

Also if you want to do some more in-depth studying before you go in, I posted a link (in our group) to the BMR (Basic Military Regulations) which gives a lot more background into Navy history, ranks, safety procedures, etc. It even has mini multiple-choice question tests at the end of each chapter.

You'll hear far worse terminology than "great mistakes" out there, I promise you that!

I'm an Electrician's Mate Second Class (E-5). Enlisted back in '06, did my first 5 years stationed out of Yokosuka, Japan before coming to VA for some expeditionary time. I'll be leaving active service this December, but will be affiliated with the reserves as well. It's looking like the Navy reserves don't want me, so probably Air Force reserves, but either way...

I was trying to be at least marginally PC on here

We overlapped. I was on the Blue Pig (7th Fleet Staff) from late 05 to May 08. LOVED Japan, but HATED EVERY MINUTE of life working on that staff. Was one of the reasons I ultimately left active duty....
