Should I be worried about loss of appetite?

Since starting my journey eating primal, I've noticed that I don't have much interest in eating. Sometimes I feel hungry, but I don't want to eat and it's easy to forget about it. Other times, I'm simply not hungry at all.

I'm supposed to be eating around 1,560 - 1,640 calories a day, but after about 800 calories, I have to start forcing myself to eat.

I guess I'm just a little freaked about, because I've got EDNOS and binge a lot. It's unnerving not to be thinking about food all the time and even having to force myself to eat!

Loss of interest in food can be caused by a range of things. Depression being the number one cause. I don't mean to be presumptuous but if you've been struggling with EDNOS, could you also be a bit on the blue side? Try finding
foods that excite you and that you really are interested in cooking or tasting. That may help. You do need to eat more than 800 calories. If you eat too few your thyroid and other hormone systems will suffer. If you're not hungry try to get your calories from fat. It's a much denser calorie source and it won't take up as much room in your tummy. When I need to get cals I eat spoonfuls of coconut butter or oil :)

Hmmm....I eat 2300 cals/day and am still obsessed with food (I have orthorexia).

I second the coconut oil idea (or almond butter...or an avocado...or....)

I do have depression, but I always binge instead of loss my appetite, which is why this is such a weird thing for me.

Thanks for the suggestion about coconut butter/oil. I never thought of that!

When I am eating high fat % my appetite seems to be greatly reduced. I think the science behind it is that when your body is metabolizing fat and your blood sugar is stable, you gain some appetite suppression. Be aware that if you are like me, it will come back at some point, and when it does, eat real food. You can go a little overboard when the appetite comes back. I will go for a few days on low cals, especially non workout days, but then eat 500 calories over my goal on more active days. Just make sure your weekly calories balance out.

As others have said regarding more calories - being generous with coconut and olive oils is a good way to get some. Also some nuts can pack on a lot if calories quickly as well.

Pretty much this. I don't have the same experience with calorie cycling, though - my appetite is lower than the numbers say it "should" be (I average around 1400 calories, as opposed to my calorie goals of 1600-1800), and it's not uncommon for me to skip breakfast or lunch (usually breakfast).

You could also try sunflower butter. I struggle with eating coconut oil straight!

Be careful with sunflower butter, it has a 500:1 Omega-6:3 ratio (very, very bad!)
