I completely shredded my hands today doing rope climbs and knees to elbows. Any suggestions on what to do for hand rips??

I know your pain man. My hands are approaching critical mass. Hope this helps... http://journal.crossfit.com/2008/04/hand-rips-causes-treatments-an.tpl
Me personally, I picked up a pair of Under Armour Adult Clean Up IV batting gloves ($25) for my climbing/bar work. I did a lot of research and apparently they are the glove of choice for CF Games competitors. Light, supple, no padding but excellent grip. I tried using my GoFit lifting gloves but the fingerless design and palm padding makes gripping even harder.
I know CF purists frown on wearing gloves, but A) I'm not going to the games anytime soon to compete, I don't spend 12 hours/day in the Box, C) my wife hates calloused hands and D) I'm an IT guy and can't afford for my hands to be constantly wrapped up in bandages.
I'm also a Diabetic and the risk of infection from hand rips is not one I'm willing to take.
I still Oly and strength lift bare handed though.

Thanks! I did some research too and saw that batting gloves are apparently the way to go. I'll have to try that too. I'm in real estate and its not an attractive feature to have bleeding hands lol0 -
Soak tea bags and then place them over the open wounds for some pain relief. If you haven't already, don't remove the flap(s) of torn skin. Leave them in place and bandage over them with ointment. Much like blisters, they tend to heal a lot quicker if you don't remove the natural bandage that is the torn or agitated skin.
You can still have attractive hands with strategic calluses. It takes a little extra TLC, a couple changes in grip technique but it can be done. Ideally calluses should be smoothed using something like a pedicure file or a pumice stone and then moisturized. They should be smooth and hydrated. The big cause of tears is actually the little edges of skin that form as the layers of your callus start to peel away begin to catch on whatever you're grabbing onto, especially during things like pull ups, toes to bar, etc. If you keep them smoothed down you can almost fully eliminate tears.
Also, gymnastic grips can easily be made out of athletic tape, so if you know you're getting into another grip intense WOD, throw together a quick DIY set of grips and at the very least lessen the severity of your tears.0 -
get yourself a pumice stone and callus cream and use it everyday in the shower.. this will help toughen up your hands and keep them from ripping.. mine ripped often until I started doing this0
