My wife and I stumbled on this show thanks to Netflix and decided to give it a try. While the first season was kind of uneven, it was good enough for us to keep going.
Boy am I glad we did!
After how season 1 ended (and season 2 started), I was surprised I hadn't heard of this show. I thought maybe it was because that glimmer of brilliance was a fluke. Then I got to season 3 episode 4, wow! Then season 4 episode 2, are you kidding me??? The writers have guts! Then season 5 episode 1, holy cow!
As a loyal entertainment weekly subscriber for nearly 10 years, I decided to check the website and see what (if anything) they had to say about the show, since I didn't ever remember seeing them mention it. They skewered it and gave it a C. Based on the first half of the first season, the rating was fair, but if they'd bothered to tune in to a later season, that grade definitely would've gone up.
Any other Eureka fans here?

ME ME ME! I love eureka. I don't think I saw the last season, but I remember watching it when it first premiered on SyFy, and it blew my mind. Such a fun, quirky, character driven show with amazing talent and serious writer balls.

I love Eureka too. I think it got cancelled because it was on the SyFy channel and they seem to only want to show Ghost hunters and Wrestling now. It used to be a good station. Anyway, Zane has moved on to the American version of Primeval so at least there is that to look forward to.

I liked it until they did the alternate world stuff. When I realized they weren't getting back to "normal" world stuff, I just dropped off.

Really? Lots of shows will do a one-off episode, where everything's back to normal by the end credits because it was only a dream, or they managed to change things back at the last minute. I loved that Eureka didn't let them get out of it. They just had to deal, and it was lots of fun watching them do so.

I read up on the reason for the cancellation since I was bummed that I hadn't watched the show until after it was cancelled and apparently Eureka cost just a bit too much per episode (because of the special effects) and they weren't willing to try to make the show for less money then they already were, so they got the axe.

I was disappointed that they abandoned all previous characterization, and I don't think the new storyline was worth it. And James Callis has a horrific American accent. Not earth shatteringly bad, but the occasional bad turn of phrase really grated after a while.

I was a little upset that they didn't go back to the original timeline, but I liked most of the changes that they made to the characters so I got over it. I really like that Lupo became head of GD security so that she wasn't stuck working for Jack all the time. Otherwise they probably would have had to promote her off of the show because she was too good and had too much experience to stay a deputy. I also liked that they gave Fargo more responsibility, not because he deserved it, but because it made him grow as a person and he stopped being a bumbling joke.

I love it! I met Colin Ferguson at a con a few weeks ago. My hubby stopped watching it after the time travel storyline (and usually I'm the one who hates time travel).

Me, me, me, meeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! *hand waving wildly in the air*

I love Eureka and I'm so sad it's over. The show was so well written and hilarious. I liked the changes from the time travel and how they had to re-set themselves to their new lives.

My two favourite things were that Fargo was the voice for the house and Deputy Andy (Kavan Smith is just a-freakin-dorable).

So mad at SciFi!!!! Can't believe they cancelled Eureka. It was one of their highest rated shows and it was profitable! It just didn't have the profit margin they wanted because of the effects budget. Between that and the ending of Stargate Universe I could picket the studio at this point. Oh and I know the end of Merlin wasn't their fault but I am mad about everyone associated with that so they are getting a small portion of my wrath there too.
