Hi Everyone! I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op. I used MFP for my 6 month pre-surgery weight loss program and am continuing to use it for for tracking calories and protein intake post surgery. I started pureed food this week and am doing pretty well so far. Down 19 lbs since surgery. )1

My name is Carrie Forbes. I have just moved to Traverse City, Michigan from Jackson, Michigan. I recently aquired a position in a hospital which has insurance that covers gastric bypass surgery. I have not even had my intitial consult yet but I am super excited to have the surgery done. I have two daughters ages 16 and 10. My 16 year old is already obese and I am hoping that my lifestyle change will rub off on her. I won't be cooking anymore unhealthy food so I guess she will eat what I serve or starve. I have been married for 9 years to a man who loves me know matter how big I am. I am looking forward to doing something for myself and giving me the life that I deserve. I hope that this site and this blog will help me get the support I need to make this lifestyle change.1

Hi, my name is Carolyn from Everett, WA. I am going to have the bypass surgery next month, hopefully soon they will give me an exact date. I am having it because I have diabetes and a number of other health issues and this is a way to put diabetes into remission and of course to be healthy.
I am excited and nervous about this whole process!1 -
Hello! I'm a 38 year old male residing in Virginia. I had my RNY almost four weeks ago. After the first week of recovery, it's been pretty smooth sailing. I actually enjoy eating smaller portion sizes and am having a hard time believing the way I used to eat. Anyway, there aren't many males my age having this surgery but I still enjoy reading about everyone else's experiences. It really is an adventure! I already get lots of comments at work about my weight loss and I've really only lost about 40 lbs so far since my pre-op liquid diet.0

Hi Everyone! I am Amber, 33, single mom and had my RNY April 1, 2013. I've been tinkering back and forth between 50-60 lbs. I've pretty much stalled for the last few months. However, I've not been doing as I am supposed to. I don't have dumping symptoms it seems with anything so I've taken advantage of that. My hopes are to start the 5 day pouch diet tomorrow and start anew. I've got Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism and a family history of heart disease. I quit smoking two months prior to my surgery so I've made really good progress towards living a healthier lifestyle and I want this so bad. I am here to get support from you guys first and foremost. But also, I feel if I track my food prior to eating it I can see where I'm making my biggest mistakes. I'm glad to be here and I really look forward to seeing that scale drop again.1

I would have to eat all day.... i really need recipes and try new foods I'm on phase 3 now .0

Hi, I'm Tiffany. I live in Arkansas. I'm a mother of 2 & 40 years old. I was approved and scheduled for surgery June 17, 2014.
I'm so nervous. I'm having second thoughts. I think it's because I'm on my liquid diet, things are getting real, and I'm hungry. I come in way under my 800 calories/day. I'm never really hungry, just thinking about food. Nothing ever sounds good, so I don't eat. Does this all work itself out?0 -

It is all part of the process. Everyone gets nervous and worries. But every person I've asked is glad they did it, and wish they had done it sooner.0 -

Hi, I’m Mike, I am 6 months post op RNY. I was, last May, 285lbs at my heaviest. This was due to injuries I received in Iraq in the Army. I was a roadside bomb hunter and well one too many found me sadly. I was medevac and had surgery in a portable tent style OR. That’s where they took out some of my intestines and repaired the wounds. After this I started gaining and my stomach slowly stopped working. Nerve damage apparently was the culprit. Over the years the gastroparisis got worse and was at the point where during the emptying study I still had 80% left after 4hrs. So I could not take the medicine because of got mental side effects, therefore, the RNY was an experimental option.
I opted in and in September 2017 I had the surgery. I did have a bleed after I got home due to that blood thinner and springing a leak inside. That was an easy fix and I have been great since. I am at my goal of 160-165, and trying to maintain.
I downloaded this app to be able to track my calories. I don’t get hardly half of what my nutritional goal is. Sadly I eat really healthy, protein packed, low carb, very very low if any sugar foods. Sadly the calorie value of these are very low. I have to start snacking more, which is now in my brain, counter intuitive to what I have been reprogrammed to do.
To close I would like to open myself to anyone that needs help, a friend, or just a crazy motivator like me to remind you that it can be done! Please add me and message me. I am a divorced, 100% disabled vet, and retired at only 36, so trust me I am bored 99% of that time. I have all the time in the world to spend on myself and I know lots of, if not most, do not have that option. Anything I can do to help and if you have any suggestions for me please again do not hesitate to send me a message.
It is a pleasure to meet y’all and I hope to make lots of new and wonderful friends along the way.
Happy to help,
Sgt. Mike Withers (Ret)

Hi, I’m Tonya. I am 52 years old, have one son who is 25 and two dogs. I have been overweight all my life and after years of trying to lose weight on my own and failing, I just had gastric bypass surgery on 4/17/18. Still on liquids and struggling to get the 48 oz of fluids and 70 grams of protein they recommend. I start on the pureed stage this coming Tuesday. Looking forward to something other than liquids.0

Tonya, I'm just in my first month of a 4 month program before bypass surgery. The post-op diet is really scary. How are you doing?

Hello everyone! I am Andrea and had RNY on August 23,2018. It was one of the hardest decisions I have made in my life. One that I do not have any regrets about.. I am currently eating regular solids and thinking about going on a Ketogenic diet. Has anyone done this?0

How’s it going? I’m stacey and I had Gastric Bypass in Toronto on December 7, 2018 (2 weeks ago). Still just figuring things out as I come to the end of the full fluids phase.
So far things have been a total breeze... so much so that I am almost wondering if I even had the surgery. I certainly don’t feel full off my full fluid meals...
I am hoping that changes tomorrow when I move to purées.
I’d love to hear any advice!0 -
