Keeping Going With Mental Health Issues

I am bipolar and it has taken me almost two years now to get mentally healthy enough to focus on other aspects to me life. As a result of being on the meds I was on I gained over 100lbs. Before that I was extremely fit and cycled 30 miles almost a day. I started Body Revolution this past week or tried. I am not sure if I was detoxing from food or just in a funk but middle of this week I got really just blah and needed a mental health day to recover and now that I feeling better I ended up missing 3 days of workouts. I have stuck to the meal plan however. I figure I will officially start next week because of this. Has anyone else with mental health issues struggled with doing this program or had a hard time keeping going when you needed a mental health day? I don't want to give up and I want to complete this but it is hard to do when when part of you isn't functioning right.

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that its commendable trying to work through what your going through. I have depression and some days are not the best. I'm no longer on medication but I've found that exercise has become my saving grace. For depression exercise has been found to be very therapeutic it may be the same in your case. Some days I don't feel like doing it but I tell myself that I'll feel better not only body wise but mentally that I did something good and I'll feel better.

Three days of Body Revolution is MUCH better than zero days. I think you should be proud of having completed three days of working out! For myself, I need to distinguish between really needing the day to recoup (mentally or physically), and just finding excuses to not workout. If you need to take a day off, just do it and don't let it deter you from the big picture. Afterall, you're doing this for yourself. Do it the way that works for you.0

My heart goes out to you for what you're dealing with. I think all of us, whether we're dealing with mental issues or not, need an occasional mental health day. Last Saturday I could NOT make myself do Cardio 1. I even got so far as getting dressed, starting the DVD, and doing the first 2 moves of Circuit 1 before giving up. However, I was ready to go again on Sunday. I don't think you have to be perfect to do this program. Do your best. If you miss a day, pick up where you left off ASAP. Best of luck to you! If you want, go ahead an add me for accountability. I'm on my 3rd week, but I am still doing Workouts 1&2.0

Yes, there are others. *raises hand* I am not bipolar but am diagnosed with Borderline (BPD) and depression. I have been off medication (not by choice) for a few years and am finally trying to get a Dr. so I can get back on. It took me almost 2 yrs. just to actually start working out! Working out has helped a bit, but I have a lot of trouble sticking with it. I keep having periods of days or week(s) where I don't workout and feel blah, as well, but stick with the calorie counting.
I think you're doing pretty good. You'll fall off the horse a bit, as will I, we just have to remember that it won't ruin everything and we need to push ourselves a little harder to start again. Chine up, we can do this.
P.S. feel free to add me as a friend. Maybe we can help each other.0
