Should I still be lifting too?

So my gym membership ran out on the 14th. I let it run out because I was going to switch to the local YMCA for multiple reasons. (I can ride my bicycle there, and I would like to use the other features other than just the weightroom) Anywho....while in this transition, I have decided to take a break from paying for a gym for a couple months to use that extra cash for some other stuff.

I started Insanity on the 15th with my girlfriend. Now, I'm only 3 days in so far, but it seems like this program is A LOT of cardio. There is strength sprinkled in, but it's all body weight stuff. I'm more worried about losing the progress I've made than anything. Granted, I am more sore from jumping, squating, push-uping, and yoga posing than I've been from the gym in a while. Maybe it was time for a routine change anyway, or maybe I just wasn't going hard enough in the gym. I can tell it's working muscle groups that have not been touched in a while....and i'm hurting.....in the best way. haha

Has anyone out there done Instanity and did you still lift at all during? What was your experience like?

I guess I should also state that my main goal right now is to lower my BF% while maintaining the muscle I have now. But at the same time I dont want to go back to lifting after this and find myself worse off. I dont see that happening tho. I'm not that strong, and I DO think the program is going to make me stronger. At least my upper legs, chest, and shoulders/back based on what I've done so far.

The best way to do that is to lift heavy an maintain a modest deficit.

Unless you're pretty weak, I doubt it.

haha. I was lifting heavy and definitely saw progress. I get tired of doing to same things over and over. I lifted heavy for about 5 months and noticed myself getting bored, so I switched to lifting in more of a circuit style for the last few months. Less weight/less rest/more reps. Some different lifts I was doing, but still doing the essential compounds.

Like I said, I'm in between gyms right now, so I figured I'd give this a try. I'm going to stick to it, but I was just seeing if anyone else has done Insanity and if they found they were still needing to lift. I'm just starting it

Edit: also....I would consider myself pretty weak compared half the people in the weightroom at my gym. They're very strong and huge, and thats just not really what I'm interested in. I like my medium shirts to fit.

And I know I'm not going to get huge while eating at a defecit. I really like lifting and do want to get stronger. Just wanted some input on still lifting while doing Instanity

I have not done insanity or anything similar, however, you need progressive loading to have the best chance of maintaining LBM. You may have used some muscles differently than you are used to which is why you are sore, but there will be muscles that you will be using less on this program and will not have the progressive loading you need to optimize LBM retention.

If you do not want to join a gym immediately I would recommend looking into something like Convict Conditioning where there is progressive loading built in. IMO, this is not as ideal as barbell work just by the nature of its limitations, especially if you are going from free weigh work to that, but it would be a good add.
