1st 2days I felt good, since then, . I haven't had the energy to exercise, don't even want to do laundry, feel yucky. Calories 1500(nothing new) . Carbs 56, fat 100,, protein 97, any ideas why I feel so crappy ? My belly also feels super bloated,, but I don't feel like I have the carb flu (no nausea)... anyone ever feel like this ? I'm drinking bulletproof coffee and thats not even helping me. (Regular coffee sends me zooming off to my workout) oh, . And I'm going to the bathroom each morning, any suggestions ?

maybe the issue is mineral deficiency? Low carbers need to supplement sodium, potassium and magnesium. Try drinking a cup of salty broth.0

So are you not supposed to drink so much water ? Does that flush the sodium out ? I will try some broth in the morning, I've read a lot of your posts, they're very helpful. Thanks ! How long did it take you to lose 50lbs ? That's quite an achievement ! Congrats !0

are your carbs 56 before or after fiber? if it's 56 net your carbs may be too high? Do you have ketostix?0

From "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" (Phinney, Volek) On low carb, your body will begin to dump sodium to the kidneys. You need lots of water to flush this out. But the result is that you are low on sodium, a key mineral. Your body then turns to potassium in an effort to preserve sodium. Low sodium can cause dizziness and fatigue; low potassium can cause muscle cramps and heart arrhythmia. You can also lose muscle mass, as potassium is key to maintain lean mass.
In the book they even highlight that low carb, even at levels of 50-60 g / day, cause the kidneys to dump sodium. So even your slightly higher carb levels (vs those doing Atkins induction and keto) are in this range.
They recommend 5 grams of sodium a day.
I drink 12-16 8 oz glasses of water a day - less than that causes me to retain water.
I've been on keto since last September.
Good luck! The broth should help. You may also want to use Lite Salt, which adds potassium. I like Slo-Mag as a magnesium supplement.0 -
I agree with kiramaniac. You probably need more sodium. Most people need 3-5 g (3000-5000 mg) on a low carb diet. You should drink plenty of water too. The sodium will actually help your body retain potassium which is needed for proper muscle and other cellular functions.0

Thank you ladies for your help !0

It is completely normal to feel sluggish at day 7 as your body is transitioning! You don't necessarily get nausea from "carb flu"
While it certainly may be helpful for you to follow the advice above, stay the course and it should eventually get better.
Some people say it took them a couple weeks to feel well again.
Good luck!0 -
lose the carbs >20g.
day 3 you ll drink a river dry and then a day of "wellbeing" follows but like mentioned above it can take up to a month to be able to train with the same intensity and settle into things.
no use sat on the fence half in half out dipping a keto stick !!!0 -
I felt like that for the first five days, along with a horrible headache. It finally clicked with me that it was the lack of sugar in my diet. I woke up on day 6, and felt great. Push through it if you can.0

I'm on about day 7 of low carb. I'm targeting 50g per day. Been having the same headaches, some days worse than others, some days not at all. Today is a headache day- and of course, it's squat day in the gym! I've been wary of increasing my salt but I'll give that a try.
Monday mornings are always my heaviest weigh in of the week, but I'm down 6lbs from last Monday.0 -
Dr. Atkins called this phenomenon 'the low-carb flu:
