I'm scared to try because I don't want to drink scrambled eggs, which is what I keep imagining will happen. Tips, please!

I'm taking a break from eggs, but a nog sounds interesting. Other than eggs, what's in it??

Coffee. Cinnamon and vanilla if you want it, but the base is eggs and coffee.

The eggs don't really cook, but rather emulsify the coffee. It's kind of the same principle as the Bulletproof Coffee with the coconut oil and butter - the act of blending everything changes how they interact.

I am going to give this a try

I wonder if it would work with warmed almond milk?? I don't drink coffee, but that sounds deeee-licious.

I made it today, too. It's pretty good! I'm not sure how energized I feel, though. It didn't taste egg-y at all.

I've had it a couple days now - and I really like it! I still do the bulletproof recipe w/ a Tbs of MCT oil, about 1 Tbsp of Kerrygold, and I just added in one egg yolk w/ cinnamon and stevia. It has really been filling me up for several hours!
One tip, though - I make about 16oz of coffee, and I can't stand lukewarm coffee, so I typically end up microwaving my last 8oz to warm it up a bit. You cannot microwave the egg coffee- I tried the first day and I think that cooked the egg yolk. It really altered the taste of the coffee in a bad way. So, now I'm just figuring out how to keep my coffee warm enough to drink the entire cup. :)

Last Friday, and this morning, I beat three eggs and put them in a 20oz insulated Klean Kanteen and then fill it the rest of the way with coffee ("Island Coconut" flavor Green Mountain) and then shake to mix. Friday, I used salt and cinnamon, this morning just salt. Three eggs is a bit much, I think. Both Friday and today, I have felt nauseous after drinking it... still do now, actually. I'm going to cut it to two eggs tomorrow, and see what happens.

Dumping the hot coffee right into the eggs has not even come close to cooking them, for those concerned about that hypothetical scenario.

I plan on trying it too, but with just the yolks. However, since I intermittent fast every day and the yolk contains a bit of protein and carbs I will have to try it outside of my IF window. It's exciting to hear that it is good.

This is day one of my Whole30 and my big elimination is cream so I'll be trying different things. So far, coffee with butter and coconut oil is pretty good.

I did the whole egg variation, which only uses 2 eggs. It might be worth trying that one.

I did three whole eggs. I figured this would be ok because Sissons recipe called for two for whole eggs with one cup (8oz) of coffee. My Klean Kanteen is 20oz. Three Jumbo eggs are estimated to be a little over 6oz which means ~14oz of coffee. So, this should make for a slightly less egg-rich concoction than what the recipe calls for. I am going to cut it to two tomorrow, regardless, given my personal experiences so far today and Friday.

What's the texture/mouth-feel like on this? I've tried bulletproof, but can't get past the oiliness of it. The flavor was okay, but I just felt slimy! LOL

This sounds really foul, but hey, I'll give it a try if it's not a gross mouth-feel. :-)

Thicker than coffee, of course. I'd say maybe its mouth-feel is kind of like drinking a V8, as far as just the thickness goes. Smoother than V8, though.

I tried it with 3 yolks, a bit of honey, cinnamon, and sea salt. It was delicious. Thick, creamy, frothy. Tasted like something you'd get from Starbucks. But way healthier.

And a little later, I took the egg whites and mixed them with a can of tuna to make tuna patties for a protein packed lunch. Fat for breakfast, protein for lunch? Win win!

Why not just eat the eggs and drink your coffee the traditional way?

Why not just eat the eggs and drink your coffee the traditional way?

Because some of us do not like coffee black and are looking for alternatives to dairy and/or sugar. Why not try something different than the "traditional way"? lol

You have a point. Change can be good. But I think I'll pass on this one.

Why not just eat the eggs and drink your coffee the traditional way?

    a) I can't stand black coffee (I hate the bitterness) and I'd like to get away from sweeteners/sugar and milk.
    b) Sometimes I'm too lazy/don't have time to cook/don't want to have my usual bacon and eggs breakfast. This has the potential to be faster (run Tassimo, crack eggs into blender and throw other stuff in while waiting for brew, add coffee, blend for 30 seconds, done) and just something to mix it up.
    c) Like Mark, I always see people raving about bulletproof coffee, but could never get into it. This was something different to try and I really like it for a once in a while thing.
    d) I like trying new things once in a while, and it helps me to think outside the breakfast box. I was a "must have cereal/pancakes/waffles/oatmeal for breakfast or I never feel 'right'" type of person for...well...about 20 of the last 25 years.

I know, I know... maybe I just can't get good enough coffee. But the BP is one step toward liking it black, maybe, someday, ???

What is the difference between cream (in your coffee) and butter, anyhow? I mean, why not use heavy cream? Is there some significance I'm not getting? After all, butter is just churned cream. Or is it that the whey is processed out when you make butter...

Made the coffee! Here's what I did: 2 eggs, 1/3 cup extra thick coconut cream, 1 TB coconut oil, dash of cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and organic coffee. Totally came out amazing and frothy. Going to try making it with light coconut milk next time and see how that turns out, but this was HEAVEN!!! I added the recipe to my diary and called it Paleo Latte because that's exactly what it tasted like!

Cream still has carbs and protein in it, while butter (particularly clarified butter and ghee) doesn't. Non-homogenized milk separates into cream and skim naturally, but there is still some skin in the cream (which is what keeps it liquid, since milk fat is saturated). The process of churning the butter removes more of the remaining skim (leaving you with what's often referred to as "butter milk"), and clarifying it further removes the last traces of skim, leaving only the fat.

If you have a low carb allotment, are Type 2 diabetic, or have any other reason to micromanage carbs, that couple that are in you portion of cream can really screw with things.

Also, if you're sensitive enough to lactose and/or casein, then you may react to cream, but clarified butter or ghee are kosher.

Yup, yup. I am not a fun person to be around if I've had any dairy...makes me sick. Butter on the other hand does not.
