Almost there...

So this week I will see the cardiologist for my last run through the wringer before I see my surgeon for my pre-op visit, then next week when I get the cardiac clearance I will get a date for my sleeve surgery. It's been a long process (as I am sure you all know) and now I am just ready already! I have been a little bit anxious but I am working through it. A few people have felt compelled to give me advice, and it's a little irritating because these people have never had surgery or weight issues for that matter. I just shrug it off, I don't have the time or energy for that. I have been seeing a therapist through this whole process, and I mentioned to him that no matter how prepared I think I am, it feels like there is really no preparing for this, because my post-surgery life will be a lot of trial and error. Did any of you feel like that?

Yes, and it still is in many ways. Some foods work one day, and not the next..... Practice good eating habits, chew everything well, make sure to ditch the sodas, diet and regular..... No nutrition there..... That has been my Mantra since 6 months before my surgery. If it is not nutritious, then why eat it...... Same thing that would have kept me thin and healthy for my pre surgery years.

That said, surgery is still one of the 5 best things in my life..... Husband, kids, family, education, and my journey out of obesity!

Thanks :-) I have already changed my eating habits for the better, I eat mainly lean protein, fruits, and veggies. The most difficult thing so far has been giving up coffee! I am also exercising regularly. 60 lbs so far and I get weighed in again this Friday. I am really excited to have the surgery and move forward!

Hi, yes... You ARE almost there!

I made the choice pre-op to not tell people. Only a handful of people (closest family and hubby) knew. Best thing I could have done, because everyone has an opinion and think they know best!

Now after surgery I am happy to share! O'yes, and my surgery was Thursday, 18 July 2013! Yes, last week!

All of the best with your journey. This is a WONDERFUL group to be part of and the support and advice is fantastic!

    Best wishes...

Thanks Daisy! I have been selective about who I tell about the surgery, but still... some people will always have something to say! I was planning to do what you did, and put it on blast after the fact!

Wow, you have just barely had surgery! How are you feeling?

Doing well. I am a bit sore, but that is because of some internal bleeding. I came out of theatre with a drain. On Saturday I was discharged, but the drain starting leaking and I was taken up for a further 3 days.

Now 1.07am SA time, I am being discharged today and I am very excited.

Welcome! I was sleeved on July 8. Everything went well - no complications and I went back to work on Monday, after just 2 weeks! I have only told a couple people, mainly because I didn't want to hear everyone's opinions. Now I will tell people if they ask, but I don't plan to make a general announcement.

Yes, I had some fears before surgery (RYN - 11/28/12). I was more public about my surgery and weight loss as I was asked to write a blog for a local magazine. My thought was If I'm going to lose 80+ pounds in 6 months, no sense not being open about why. For the most part, people have been accepting and supportive of my decision (at least to my face). The truth is I don't care what they think. I did this for me and my family. As long as they are on board, then I'm OK. If you are interested in reading some of my thoughts/fears/experiences. Feel free to check out my blog at http://www.fredericksburgparent.net/blogs/weigh-in/

    Good luck!

I have my first consult with a surgeon in 9 days. It's been 7 years in the making, but I'm finally in a good place physically and mentally to make this first step. I find so many of the stories/advice in this group helpful and encouraging.
    Good luck to you.
