Hey how are you doing? I have been absent from the boards for a while----I get so busy at work I do not get online.....and at home i am using the phone or ipad app.
What is it that you do to lose weight and live healthy? I count what I eat and try my best to be a scrupulous tracker! I recently started cutting out carbs, oh---not 100%, but avoiding bread, pretzels, pasta, crackers, potatoes, etc. it did really help me drop 10 pounds quickly. And I just feel like I am eating better because low carbs usually equals low junk!

My goals are not written in stone. I am guessing I would be pretty happy and healthy at 250. I want for my knee to not hurt, better mobility and feeling more confident. I have lost 65 pounds, and that took a little over a year. so I will be working at this for a while, but I am OK with that.
How about y'all?0 -
good questions!
What is it that you do to lose weight and live healthy? the biggest change is portions!!! was a notorious 2nd helping kind of gal! and second was greatly decreased pop and increased water. I used to drink almost a 12 pack of pop a day, coke at that, now I might have pop during the week but not everyday and not always caffeinated, I no longer buy chips and pop and munchies to have all the time, we get them as treats (sometimes more often then others - still a work in progress), and tracking my food has helped immensely and been a real eye opener! I also took a diabetes education class a few years back when I got started, and am taking it again to get back on track. I started out by walking 10-15 minutes at a time, over winter worked on the Leslie Sansone walk at home videos, got to the point I could workout out for up to an hour at a time!! recently I started doing more weight training and cut back on cardio the last 3 months and still seeing changes. trying to add cardio back in more, but blood sugars are being resistant to that idea. am determined to get it under control again tho! also, learned what supplements to take so I wasn't breaking out(anaphylaxis) from all the healthy foods!
What are your goals and how are you reaching them? goal was originally to loose 100 pounds by my 35th birthday - it didn't happen, but have come further then ever and just taking a little longer. so my new overall goal is to reach ultimate goal weight (which is a biggie - -140 (150 lost!) but I break it into smaller increments so I don't get overwhelmed. just plan to keep going on MFP and logging, keep moving forward with my weight training and exercising, and keep doing what I am doing.
sorry so long winded, but I realize there isn't just one way to get the job done, it is a combination of different things, and sometimes there are set backs and roadblocks, but the key is to keep at it and be patient, time is now my friend.0 -
My journey to lose 100+ lbs began in January of this year, and I began using MFP. I have never joined a support group before, but lately I have had some questions and issues come up that I wondered if others might also have experienced. After looking through pages and pages of different groups that could possibly fit my situation, I came across this one. As I read through a few of your posts, your positivity drew me in. I hope there are some people out there that can help me and maybe, if I'm lucky, I can be of help to someone too!
I am 43 years old, and have 3 children. My original goal was to lose about 117 lbs, and so far I have lost 50. The first month I concentrated on the food aspect. I quit all regular and diet sodas and sweets cold turkey. I started cooking more and more and only used recipes which listed calorie counts. I ate nothing after 6:00pm and i logged everything i ate. Our plan (my husband is also on his own healthy living quest), was to add to our program each month or so. Month 2, we started walking and continued to eat more healthily. As the months have progressed, I have begun running. I drink a lot more water now. I am always on the lookout for healthy recipes, but I have found that a little more difficult than anticipated. I try to eat around 5 or 6 times a day now, and i keep lower calorie protein bars with me in case I am out so I won't make bad choices at a fast food restaurant or go too long without eating which might result in overeating later. I rarely miss the sodas, but I must admit I am terrified of sweets. I guess I feel that if I eat any, I will immediately backslide, so I avoid them like the plague. My weight loss has stalled in the last month so I have tried to increase the intensity of my walks/hikes/runs. I want to start with weight training, but so far my lack of knowledge in that area has been holding me back.
That's a lot of what I do. I try not to constantly think about food, but I usually do. I've just tried to shift my thoughts to the healthy options. I have found that I love running and exercising. I still struggle with my willpower to get out and moving even though I know how great I feel afterwards. Who knew I would love being tired and sore? I look forward to reading about others' progress and journeys!0 -
Hi I'm new here. I'm 41 years old, a single mama of two and have decided to STOP the fad diets, prepackaged meals, pyramid scheme weight loss products, and madness. I want to learn to lose and maintain a healthy lifestyle using real foods, exercise and being accountable. It's not going to be easy, because I've got 100 more pounds to go, but I want to do this so badly, and know I can. When I'm on a "diet" it tends to trigger the rebellion in me, so I'm looking at this as making smart choices to last a lifetime.
I'm using the MFP suggested guidelines, and not trying anything else. No cutting out food groups, etc. I do want to move away from hyper-processed food though, so I'm striving for 80% whole food choices (fruit, whole grain, animal protein, dairy, and veggies). I will limit my intake of processed (bread/pasta, convenience foods, eating out) to approx. 20%.

Hi Ladies! It's good to see some new faces!
While my dedication to my own journey has been wobbly for a while I can say when I am at my best is when I am following some sort of plan. I will say for meal planning I figure out what I will eat including snacks for the next week and get all the groceries that match up with the recipes. Then on Sunday evening I make all the brown rice, whole wheat pasta, turkey burgers, chicken breasts, stir-fry, and anything else that can be cooked ahead of time. This helps because several recipes call for the same ingredients and it helps me when I've had a busy day get home and stay on track. I also portion off snacks ahead of time so I can grab a baggie of carrots or almonds and put it in my purse for snacking at work or as a back up if I get stuck at an appointment.
It helps me when I am prepared because I don't get into the emergency frenzy eating when I have something unpredictable keeping me working late. I used to run to fast food when my schedule was messed up and I was so hungry that I could turn a normal day starting with yogurt and egg whites into a bad day because I ate a cheeseburger value meal.0
