I absolutely LOVE Sushi!!!

Before my bypass surgery I often ate sushi...

Today someone spoke about sushi and now my mouth is watering!!

I cannot wait to have some...

Ant other sushi lovers who had the op? How long did you wait 'till you had some after your op?

I love sushi. There is an all you can eat sushi buffet here that is pretty awesome. We would go there for special occasions. Being that I had surgery the same week as you I am not back to eating it yet. I can't wait. Chinese and Japanese foods are some of my favorite.
  • I'm 7 months out and sushi is still not an option for me. I tried some last night and the rice from only one piece was upsetting my stomach. I do have sashimi sometimes though and that usually takes care of the craving.

I absolutely LOVE sushi, but I am 3 months post-op and haven't had the guts (literally haha) to try it. When I get around to it, I plan on ordering what I like but just not eating the rice. The raw fish and veggies are my favorite part anyway :)

I love sushi too!! I waiting until I was at least 6 months post op to even try it! All is well with it though, no isues. But one roll lasts me 3 meals and I get tuna tataki with it too so I know I am getting the protein I need since Sushi is, by definition, all about the rice.

I am only 1 month out - so not sushi for me yet. It was a once a week meal for me, so I cannot wait to be able to have it - many months from now I am sure.

sashimi and naruto rolls (no rice with cucumber instead of nori wrapper) are the way to go as soon as you have the go ahead to eat raw vegetables. Chew well and enjoy. i was having these 6 weeks after surgery. No better source of low fat protein in mt opinion. In fact I'll eat it for breakfast...but I'm weird.

omg, I've never even heard of naruto rolls. I've never seen that on the menu where I go. Do you request them like that? You just made my day! lol

Most good sushi restuarants around me (RI/MA) will make any roll naruto style if you ask. Sometimes the waiter doesn't know the word "naryto" so I'll say no rice and cucumber instead of seaweed. That usually gets me what I want. Hope you are successful next time you order sushi! :)

I eat rice less sushi rolls, ones wrapped in cucumber, or I'll scoop out the filling. :)

Three years out and a spoon of rice still does me in! But. The place my DH and I visit has cold cooked shrimp and crab, I dip these into wasabi/soy, and it works to fix sushi hunger. Thanks for the nary to tip!

Never had sushi, not sure if I ever will. The thought of raw fish and/or seaweed doesn't thrill me. Don't know if I will ever get brave enough to try it. As for rice, however, doesn't bother my pouch at all--but very few things do. Maybe you could blindfold me and tell me I'm eating a Kit Kat bar and I might try the sushi. (LOL) At any rate, for those of you who enjoy it, I hope that you are able to find a way to still eat the things you love. WLS shouldn't keep us from things that taste good.

Thanks for your response.... My mom also does not like Sushi..don't think she has even tried it, but the idea of the raw fish puts her off...

Yep. Think that's it--the idea of raw fish. Not a BIG fan of baked or fried fish either, so I guess raw fish wouldn't appeal to me. But I still think that we should not have to forgo our favorite things just because we had weight loss surgery. I bet before long you'll be enjoying sushi again--one way or another. Me, it's enchiladas or chinese food. For that, I have learned to make my own so that I can enjoy a healthier version. And I may still try sushi one day when I get brave. However, duck or venison may not be in the cards for me. hahaha!

This has been a great thread. I'm only a week post surgery, so it will be a while. But one of my family's favorite things for a celebration dinner is to go for Sushi. I now have some ideas on what may work for me to enjoy as well. You're all right, we don't have to give up everything, just the same old thing the same old way!
