Guess I Should Say Hi

Well, I've been on MFP since January. Before that I was a member of Livestrong. Left Livestrong and found MFP when Lance Armstrong finally admitted to the steroids and doping. I am currently 46 years old, married, kids, dog, cat, job, mortgage and all the other stuff that we middle aged men have. And a year ago I was 5'8 and 218 lbs .... in other words, obese. And high cholesterol, high blood pressure and all the rest.

Today I am 5'8 and 195, resting heart rate of 58, bp of 110/70, cholesterol is all normal .... which is all fantastic. I changed my entire lifestyle to get here and I am way happier. So are my wife and kids. But I think I still have a long way to go. I want to get down to 180, or so .... 175 would be even better. And I want to get a lot stronger than I am now. I used to be able to pick up heavy things in my 20's, now not so much. But picking up heavy things is one of the things that defines being a man, so it's time to fix that.

Glad to find a place on MFP that seems to focus on men, and even more so, on men who are my age and dealing with the things I'm dealing with. Nice to virtually meet you all.

Glad you're on the FL! Welcome!!

We each have our own story as to why we are here or how we finally decided we needed to be here. Mine came when my family and I were on a Disney Cruise in Mexico. I was looking through photos following the trip and wondered who that creepy guy was so close to my daughter in one of the photos. I couldn't remember a stranger getting that close . . . then I realized it was me! I didn't recognize myself because my back was turned.

I definitely fit the profile you elaborate on - 47, wife, kids, dog, cat, job etc. When I started on here I was 221 at 5'10". . . now I'm 198. I was a low of 190 but put some back on through a bulking phase. That term - bulking phase - is something I never thought I'd hear myself EVER say about ME especially at this age.

I agree with your comment - it's nice to have a place that focuses on men's health and the issues we face. What I find ironic is those 20somethings trying to tell us middle aged guys how to loose weight. Apparently they've no realized we lived through our 20's. If what we did then to loose weight worked now - in our 40's - we wouldn't need to be here.

    Best to ya!

Yeah, the whole "just eat a bit less and up the reps, dude" gets a bit annoying after a while.

Welcome Eric. Nice to meet you also. Your achievements are quite impressive. I'm also trying to improve my health and get off of cholesterol meds.
