I'm a 43 years old, lazy guy, with a pot belly. I'm tired of living like this. Lost almost 25 lbs by cutting calories way back. I know I will have to eat more soon. I've never lifted in my life. I didn't think I was interested in gaining strength until I came across the 5x5 program. Now I want to trade fat for muscle. Looking for friends with experience in 5x5 at all level. Want to learn all I can and share my experience.

  • Welcome. You weren't kidding when you said you cut your calories way back. I would suggest more protein, maybe a protein shake after your Stronglifts workout to start with. If you need to justify more calories, protein builds muscle and the more muscle you have the more calories your body will burn per day.

Putting myself out there in a new blog to seek help. Thanks for the friend req! Look forward to talking to you.

I hope your diary isn't accurate. You've got to eat more, a lot more.
If breakfast isn't your thing, check out www.leangains.com
And regardless, use this calculator to figure how much you should be eating: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

I'm you plus two years and I live 8 miles away!

I started lifting July 1 so I am hardly a wealth of information but add me if you like. I just had my first fail last night @ 80 lbs on the OHP. Not squatting for a short time to let a knee heal. (not from lifting)

Sweet it seems like we have a little PA crew on here! I live in Mechanicsburg and I have been doing stronglifts since June. I really like it.

Maybe we can get Mehdi to come do a seminar and show us proper form for lifting hay bales?

DC, I work across the street from Grandpa's Growler. Maybe we'll hook up and you can give me some pointers. Trust, me I'm not trying to pick you up :)

Ben, yeah I doc everything I eat. I'm creeping up. I am seeing that even when I eat more, the 5 week projected loss increases too. I have been given a lot of links to check out. I am doing them as I can. I know I am not going to drink a gallon of whole milk a day though. I am upping the protein. Just hiked about 1.5 hours with dog, then ate a protein bar. Thanks for the tip and keep in touch.

Try concentrating on other measurements (waist, chest, hips, thigh, arms, strength gains, etc.). The project 5 week weight is ...laughable to say the least.
Just from looking at your pics, you could probably weigh the same but look/feel a lot healthier with body recomposition. You can't get healthy eating by working out and eating less than 1500 calories.
