How slow is too slow?

I know that we're supposed to pace ourselves, but how slow is too slow? If during the "run" segments, you're going slower than you were walking, is that bad?

Not at all! If that's the running speed you need to go in order to complete the interval, then it's the right speed. You will get faster with time, don't worry. Welcome to the runners club! :drinker:0

Exactly! I run slower than my partner can walk. And that's ok.
I'll tell you honestly how slow is too slow...the speed you're running at when you're sitting on the couch. Anything else, as long as it's what you need to do, is totally fine.
Don't stress about speed. It will come with time.0 -

Perfectly said. If you're making it through the program, you're doing it right. Speed really does come with time. Welcome and you're going to do great.0 -
I was wondering that as well. I feel like I go far too slowly during the running parts.0

You can never go too slow! I just finished week 6 and I am at 15:44 min/mile. Worry about building your endurance first, then you can add speed later.0

I can run in place
. Seriously, though, I actively tried to run more slowly than I walked for the first half of the program. Running is so different than walking that you need to build up those muscles before you worry about speed.

Slow is the key. I had the treadmill set for about 5.7Km/hr when I started. That's about a 14-16 minute kilometer (I'm too lazy to do the math right now). That was last November when I was running the first few weeks of the program. I could barely do the minutes of running required. By the end of the program, I was a steady 6km/hr and could occasionally run a complete 5K (50 minutes of running). Now I'm running 5K consistently at about 8:30-9:00 per kilometer. I'm very happy with the progress I'm slowly making.
It can be done. The speed comes on its own once your stamina & endurance is established. Trust the program and take it slow.0 -
Bumping because the topic is important.0

I agree! No such think as going too slow. You're running! That's a big deal! Go at whatever pace you can finish. You will naturally get faster over time without even noticing.0

Stationary is too slow. Any faster than that is totally acceptable.0

I beg to disagree. Stationary is NOT too slow:

Perhaps I should be more specific, stationary meaning "not moving in any way whatsoever, a complete standstill." If you are not moving at all, that, IMHO, is too slow. Any movement renders you "not stationary."0

I tentatively accept this pending review from my legal team.0

I think the actual definition of running is "both feet off the ground." I don't want to quibble about hopping, but I think the rate of forward progression is pretty much irrelevant.0
