Hi there!! I am 4 weeks post partum and ready to start a weight loss program to get rid of my baby weight. Prior to pregnancy I ran 20 miles per week and did SL 2-3 times per week. I am a runner at heart, and dont care for weight lifting AT ALL, however I know the benefits of lifting, and a program like stronglifts works well for me because I am not spending hours lifting. I just dont know where to start with respect to lifting or intake.

Right now according to MFP, to lose .5 lb per week I should eat 1900. So is this a good place to start? Should I try for 1 lb per week? DO I need to eat back exercise cals? (this has not worked well for me in the past). I have about 25 lbs to get to pre-pregnancy weight, and 40 lbs to lose to get to goal weight.

Should I bother with a program like p90x or insanity??

I started running a week or so ago, but due to new baby and very little sleep, I can barely run more than 1-1.5 miles. My legs are just lead and I just cant seem to move. I dont have access to a gym right now, but I plan to join one soon.

I appreciate any feedback!

As for running, I would lay off for now. Once you hit 6 months, you can get a jogging stroller and that is all sorts of awesome then.

Why would you lay off it for 6 months? I really hope to find a few minutes here and there where someone else will watch my baby so I can run.

I am not nursing. I was pumping but have stopped that just a day ago.

I don't think you need to lay off the running either. If it's something you enjoy, then do it! If you have a stroller, go ahead and try running with it, but if you can afford a jogging stroller that would probably be better :)

You can also totally take that baby and just walk!

What are your stats? Height, weight, how much you are looking to lose.

I am 5"8" and currently 199lbs. I would like to lose 35-40 lbs. I am really not sure what to do as far as macros go, as well as whether or not to eat exercise cals back....I am pretty diligent about weighing everything I eat and in the past, when eating at what MFP calculates at a deficit, I would usually gain....

    Hi

We would suggest that you set your intake at 1,900 gross (no eating of exercise calories back). Try to hit the following macros:

    Protein: 130g
    Fats: 65g

as minimums with the balance wherever based on preference and energy levels.

With regard to strength training, have you done any previously?

Thanks!! I have done stronglifts in the past and I liked that, because as I said before I am not a huge fan of lifting so this was good because it was a nice simple routine (as compared to NROLW) which I have tried but found it too long and complicated.

SOrry for the delay responding, had no internet access for a couple days!

Sorry for the delay in the follow up. I would recommend trying to get some resistance training in, especially as you diet. Pick a program that you like the most (or dislike the least). As long as it has progression built in and is a full body, the exact one is less important than picking one you will actually do.
