First Day, First Meeting, New Friends?

I'm going to my first OA meeting this evening. I'm nervous and excited. I've been all over the OA website to learn all I can about the steps and the traditions and the tools. I feel like I'm ready to take this step toward recovery.

I'm looking for OA friends here on MFP. Maybe we can support each other?

Please post your impressions of your first meeting. I've been going to OA for about a month now and I really enjoy the face-to-face meetings.

I had a good experience at my first real meeting. I'd attended 2 meetings a few years ago but wasn't ready to sincerely work the program. It was a small meeting, just 6 of us. It was a book study meeting so we spent some time reading out of the AA Big Book, then everyday shared something about themselves. I wasn't comfortable sharing so I just stayed quiet. They gave me a newcomers packet and wrote their numbers on it in case I wanted to call with questions or concerns. It was a good experience and I plan on going back next week.

As we say ... Welcome Back! I'm a re-tread -- was very involved in OA 1990-1996 and then left for a multitude of reasons. In retrospect, self will run riot! Duh.

I commit to two face-to-face meetings a week: Thursday nights and Saturday mornings. Things might be insane in my life, but if I'm focused on staying in touch with my HP (often forget), going to meetings ("not a priority") and making phone calls (Oh darn forgot again), my life works because I'm not in control.

I sent you a friend request -- feel free to add me!
