Omega 3

How do you all get your omega 3? Through food, seeds (like chia or flax), or supplement? Or a mix?

And for those that use supps, anyone have a good recommendation for very high quality?

    I use chia seeds and flax seeds mostly :) I also just bought some hemp seeds for the first time this week and they also have a bit of omega 3 in them.

    Fish oil supplements. Flax, chia, walnuts, etc. are not good sources of O-3's. They are high in ALA, but they are low in DHA and EPA. Pretty much the only way to get DHA & EPA is via fatty fish.

    Your body will convert some ALA into EPA/DHA, but the conversion rate is bad.

    I take Ovega-3. It has a pretty high dose of dha per capsule, which I think is hard to find. I believe it's 320mg of dha/capsule. The fatty fish only have the omegas bc of what they eat. In essence, we get omega-3s from the fish because fish eat algae, krill, plankton and other microscopic primordial matter that flush the fish full of fatty acids. So I just go to the source, instead of via the fish, which I think is fine to do, too...this is just what I personally do. I've thought about taking krill instead bc of different things I've read, but havent yet.

    I get mine from food, but I've been toying with adding a krill oil supplement.

    Eggs (gotta get ones from chickens that were NOT fed soy- soy-fed chickens produce eggs with a higher ratio of omega-6.)
    Canned Salmon
    Grass-fed beef and butter
    Chia
    Walnuts

    I add chia seeds, hemp seeds, fish oil to my smoothies. Not all at the same time, but sometimes.

    Supplements mostly, but I also eat wild caught salmon once or twice a week
  • Fish mostly, but I really need to add in an Omega supplement. I bought a liquid Nordic Naturals one and hated the taste.

    I eat fish 3 - 5 times per week and take fish oil supplements. I take in much more as a way to address my triglycerides, which are off the charts.
