Finally entered the weight room!

So after finishing stage 1 of NROLFW I realised that I'd have to join the gym if I wanted to be able to do the program properly and lift heavier. But that meant entering that terrifying weight room with big scary men in it who I thought would stare at me and judge my every move.
My gym's weight room is downstairs and I was just stood frozen at the top of the stairs for about 5 minutes when I finally decided to just do it and stop overthinking things. And it was fine! I didn't die and the scary men were actually really nice and accommodating. They even smiled at me (!). When I looked around I realised I probably knew more about lifting than some of the guys there who looked like they had no idea what they were doing.
So if anyone has been in my shoes (and there are probably a lot of you) I promise you that it's not as bad as you think it's going to be. Jam your music into your ears and keep your logs/worksheets next to you and no one will bother you. Everyone really is just there to get their own workout done.

I am in your shoes right now. I keep going to my Y and say this is the day, but I get there and choose the elliptical instead. They have people who walk around and monitor you. I just feel so out of place. Some of the exercises, like pushups and the ball I just can't do there. I have been feeling so horrible about it. All I do is the elliptical there and come home and do some squats and reps with my dumbbells. I feel I will never get over my fear!0

Why can't you do pushups or the ball? Start where you're at. I can almost guarantee you that no one will make fun of you.
I see guys in my weight area using the ball for different exercises. I get lots of respect for being the only female in the gym who hits the floor to bang out pushups. I started out using the railing, and eventually worked my way to doing them on the floor. Now, I can do T-pushups and explosive pushups, too.
The first few times are the hardest. After that, you'll notice that everyone works out pretty much on the same days at the same times, so you'll get used to the guys who are lifting around you. Some of them will know what they're doing, and like a previous poster said, some will be doing some silly stuff and not know a thing. Honestly, when people in the weight room are standing around and look like they're staring or judging, they're probably not -- they're just resting between sets and catching their breath.
Just make yourself do it once. The biggest, strongest, most serious guys are usually the ones who also have the most respect for women in the weight room.0 -

BUT, I WILL do it, I have to. I'm deadlifting more than the top kettlebell weight, so I am not working as hard as I should!0 -

That's exactly how I felt, I made it out to be this massive issue that I couldn't face but in reality all of that was in my head - nobody really cares what you're doing. After I finished my workout I had such a big confidence boost. Play your music loud, block out everyone else and focus on your workout. Honestly you'll feel so proud of yourself when you're done0
