Short Fat Fast

I'm just curious as to whether there would be any benefit in doing a one day fat fast say once per week - or is the three to five days cumulative effect that pushes you over into serious keto adaptation? I haven't heard anecdotally whether anyone has done individual days of fat fasting so wanted to see whether there might be any benefit to it. Cheers.

I experimented doing 2 days of just protein/veggie day before switching to Keto macros. But on them days I would be eating under calories (less than 1200) with exercise. This allowed me to enter ketosis it seems a lot quicker because I'm forcing my body into starvation mode. After words by body has no choice but to accept the fat sources as fuel since I'm am not adding in carbs that it's looking for.

I've also read somewhere that one could do an egg fast. Pretty much eating Hard-boiled eggs for one day since they are near perfect Keto macros. Of course there are some speculations about eating too many eggs and cholesterol lvls.

I think the fat fast benefits are 1) if you are in a plateau, it can shake things up; and 2) if your body has been resistant in general to getting into ketosis, this can move you forward.

That said, I personally go higher fat for keto (usually target 75%). So far this week, I've had 80% fat. I don't think it hurts. I have to think that it helps for keto adaptation. If you're already keto adapted though, is it doing much? You'll naturally keep water weight lower.

I think the main thing is that you need to ensure you're still getting minimum protein levels to maintain your muscle mass.

    Good Luck!
