Knee Pain

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this question has already been posted on here or not (sorry if it has), but I would like to know what exercises are great for losing weight with bad knees. I recently started having pain in both knees and I also have degenerative join disease in by back. So what are some great low impact things I could do. Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

    Treatment: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Swimming is good, also water aerobics. Sometimes, if your knees can handle it, stationary cycling (not recumbent).

I have bad arthritis in my knee and am not a fan of swimming. So I started weights for my arms, shoulders, even my abs. I'm surprised at how many of these you can do from a chair. And my posture has improved immensely. And I did low weights and am amazed at how toned my upper body is getting while my knee rests and heals. And ice and elevation are key! Good luck.

Thank you. I just had to google the difference because I assumed they were both stationary bikes and apparently I've been using the recumbent bike at the gym.

Thank you. I don't know exactly what's wrong with my knee, but hopefully it isn't too bad. Since I haven't hurt it, my best guess would be there's too much strain from carrying my weight.

I actually didn't start exercising until I'd lost about 65 lbs, because of knee and foot pain. If you can find some kind of exercise that works for you and doesn't hurt, that's great- I did fine losing without it at first, and when it stopped hurting, I started hiking.

I'm the opposite. Within 3-5 minutes on an elliptical my knees are screaming at me to stop, but tread mills are fine.

You could try things like yoga or pilates as well as just general walking. As someone else has said water aerobics and swimming are good if you have access to a pool.
