I was just diagnosed last week and even though I was pre diabetes for about 10 or so years, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have been on a mission since then to learn about this disease as much as possible. I have been carefully tracking every morsel that goes in my mouth and I love the app on m iPhone. I am looking for moral support to keep me going when I am struggling and my goal is to discontinue my metformin.

Hi and welcome to this group. Many of the people in this group will identify with your reaction to being diagnosed as diabetic. The good news is that for the vast majority of people it is possible to get a really good level of control and to live a healthy and active life. The MFP programme has been an absolute lifeline to so many of us. The caveat is that it must be properly applied if it is to be successful. It requires you to be determined, persistent and patient. It is NOT A QUICK FIX METHOD but rather one based on teaching us how to adopt a change of lifestyle leading to health and vitality. You have made a great start in realising that honest logging is essential for the success of the programme. Diabetes is a very individual condition and what works for me may not necessarily work for you. We all react to different foods in different ways and it really is a case of trial and error to find those foods which are best avoided for you. Information is power and there is a wealth of information on the various threads in this group with refernecs to some really excellent information sources. Take your time to explore the various threads and get a feel for the site. When you're ready to ask questions you will find lots of genuine people on here who will be willing to provide you with help, encouragement and support. I wish you well on your journey to a healthy and active life and will certainly do anything I can to help.0

A new diabetes drug my doctor put me on is VICTOZA. I am dropping weight steadily due to better insulin utilization in my body and appetite suppression. This med is a life saver for me.0

I was recently diagnosed this past April & had no clue I was even sick :frown:
bloodsugar101.com helped me to understand what was going on & how to halt the progression....one thing I wish I knew when I first started out was that sometimes, even though you're doing everything right, if you're eating to your meter, it could take a while to see those target numbers :ohwell:
Just keep at it, the bumps will smooth out in time if you remain diligent. :drinker:
It's a process, have faith in it & you will succeed0
