People (on the main forums generally) are *kitten*! Someone just posted how they trashed junk foods and some *kitten* has to comment on how they turned their house the deprived & he'll be thinking of them as he eats his B&J ice cream.

Seriously?

Why can't people just be supportive & informative. You don't need to rub in it in peoples faces that you have a fit "healthy" body and they don't while commenting that their efforts are trivial!

A-hole.

I saw that. It was pretty mean. And very short sighted. The poster acts as though she took HIS cookies away.

Why do you think keto, Paleo, Primal people usually keep to their own forums? We get very, very tired of having our personal experiences not only ignored, but completely ridiculed. I get even more enraged because the ridicule usually comes when I am trying to help someone who is struggling with the same health issues that I used to struggle with. Life threatening health issues. It's as if many, many people are really threatened to the core by the idea that food affects health... Maybe it's just too painful for many of us to accept that we have been intentionally lied to by all the big corporations and government in the name of profits.

Yes. I feel sad for people who are genuinely trying to change but some a-hole chimes in every chance they can. Those people are pitiful mocking others. They think that their fit body makes them a better/smarter person.
  • the problem is those stupid main boards...man,I can't stand going there because they PISS ME OFF SO MUCH!!!!!
There is no reason to ever go there as nobody listens and everyone wants to argue or make fun of people and their lifestyle choices..grrrr...I read the first page and stopped,no sense in allowing idiots to ruin the night

one of my many replies today was to point out that paleo gets bashed as much as junk food does. It's surreal.

I stopped even looking at the main forums. Folks there, are straight-up hostile towards paleo.

So glad I'm not the only one feeling this! They're so smug about eating poptarts. I don't even like poptarts, I don't understand the obsession with them.

    I also really hate:

'help, i'm doing 3 hours of exercise and eating 1200 calories, why aren't I losing any weight?'

'you're not tracking your food properly // just stick to it & it will work! // exercise more'

yeah or maybe the poor girl is starving herself and surviving on highly processed 'diet' foods with no nutritional value.

I think they truly believe that because they are skinny or get fit eating crap, it means they are healthy. THAT is as deceiving as the industry itself. -.-

Dr. Phinney even said it's the hardest thing to convince a skinny person (eating the SAD) that what they are doing is not ok for their body.

The main theme you see on those boards is "IIFYM" - If It fits your macros or if it fits your calories.

Knowing the difference between a 300 calorie high carb pop tart and a 300 calorie avocado/sausage omelette is what has helped me be successful with Keto/Primal!

Oh yes. Add in the Crossfit haters and, like PP said, the over-exercisers/under-eaters, and it gets very frustrating on the main forums. I'll just hide over here in my corner of MFP. :)

I agree!! The main forums are frustrating and some of the people in there are just awful. I'll stick to my awesome Paleo/Primal people and carry on smartly thanks! :)

I just read some of those comments and that is exactly why I never post anything. It's the mean girl complex I those main boards. They are very hypocritical as well. If this same person posted that they had been trying to loose the weight and nothing is working the first thing people will ask is about junk food and soda, then tell them to stop eating that stuff. I just don't understand the pure nastiness of some of those people.

People in real life who have seen me go from the obese and disabled person I was a year ago, to the able bodied person now, see firsthand the results from the change in my foods. I would never have believed that simply cutting out processed sugars and grains, would have had this effect on my health, mobility, energy, and pain levels.

I don't let the poptart heads get to me. They can eat all the crap they want. But hopefully for those people who suffer from diabetes, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, etc, they will see that there is hope for a better life, if they are willing to give it a try.

Amen to that! Have only been on this journey since May but am already half as crippled as I was and hoping the trend continues.

I don't feel bothered at all by the IIFYM posts or the posters. A lot of them are MFP friends of mine, and I've never been hassled by them about what I eat or don't eat. The only person on this board who has ever commented negatively on what I eat has been a paleo nutcase.

I really only care about what's on my own plate--not anyone else's. Different ways of eating work for different bodies/lifestyles, and I'm here for me, doing what makes me feel best.

    :blushing: you've read my mind.

This is exactly how I feel :ohwell: I guess I should spend less time on the general forums, though as of late, because of the kindergarten atmosphere there, I sure got a lot of house work done!!! :blushing:

There was an entire section of that thread declaring that pop tarts were nutritious because they have calories and calories are nutrition.

That said, I googled pop tarts and of all the crap out there, they actually don't have that much crap in them. I was surprised.
Not enough to put one in my mouth, mind you, but still surprised.
Sara Lee "whole wheat" bread has more crap!

It totally feels like banging your head on a brick wall, right?!

Totally true about the 'mean girl' mentality. That, mixed with the carb-craving-roller coaster said mean girls/boys are undoubtedly on just makes for a perfect storm of ridiculousness.

ANGTFT. (Ain't nobody got time for that.)

Yup - I used to frequent the boards fairly regularly but it was too stressful, haha. Now I'll go to look into fitness boards a bit and get/provide advice for lifting, but I stay away from nutrition.

I hadn't been on this forum in a while either - glad to hear some of the success stories in here :)
  • It's the mean girl complex I those main boards.
This is it, exactly. (except a lot of times it's the 'mean bodybuilding guy' complex)

Also, can I rant about the term orthorexia getting thrown around for everyone who tosses out one junky thing that they don't even need? Sheesh.

Yup, I've been accused of being orthorexic and I could probably be considered a Paleo nutcase (figuratively and literally). But I'll happily take those labels instead of the HUGE list of health problems that I used to have. Life threatening health problems. Health problems that made me want to check out early and orphan my child. Yeah, I think life is a whole lot better now.
