I went to the store for my boss to get him some Pedialyte (his hang over cure), so I was curious I looked at the ingredients. This is what it contains: For the Strawberry flavor

Water, Dextrose. Less than 2% of the Following: Citric Acid, Potassium Citrate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Natural Flavor, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Zinc Gluconate, Red 40, and Blue 1.

Really......is this what people are giving to their kids??????? It has AF sweetners and some bad chemicals in there!!!! WOW...SMH!!!!! :grumble:

Yup, people are giving that to their kids. Frickin nuts isn't it? That companies can put that crap in products for kids is even more nuts. I remember needing something like that in Whitehorse (when my baby got really sick, and then the stupid antibiotics for her misdiagnosed illness made her even more sick-my bad for being so stupid back then), after hitting every store I finally found an unflavoured one; it might still have had Potassium Sorbate or something in it. But now I would just make my own. Coconut water is a good base, then add stuff such as herbal tea appropriate to the condition.

Also, every kid that goes to the health center in my town is sent home with liquid ibuprofen or Tylenol. Same bad crap in those. For babies too. And the nurses say "well, it has to taste good". What happened to honey (I know, not for babies), or just plain sugar? (but of course the Tylenol and ibuprofen is also poisonous... ) Aspirin is actually the safest pain reliever (if one MUST) for kids even though it's been totally black-listed due to Reye's Sydrome (there's more to that story too). Tylenol can cause instant death, but then it's just called SIDS...

Frankly, it makes me feel like getting downright VIOLENT. So, I don't go to the Health Centre anymore. I'm really VERY angry on what they have done, and tried to do, to me and my child. I'm equally angry about all the people that die needlessly in Nunavut (and everywhere I guess) due to the rampant malpractice going on. No consequences, ever. Our lives just matter not. Our babies lives matter not.

All those top name child's products? Johnson's and Johnson's ( a "family company"... that poisons babies) et al. BOYCOTT totally, no exceptions. Ever.

It's horrible to think that we are (or were) pumping this crap into our children's bodies and sometimes even ourselves. When I looked at the list for Gatorade the other day that shocked me too. It's like WOW!!!

I try my best not to ever give my daughter stuff like that. If she's dehydrated I would rather find another way around it, but sometimes the only thing to do is give in and know that this is a one time thing. Besides, that junk is so expensive down here in Barbados it's not even funny! We are talking a single serving bottle for about $6-$8 US which is $12-$16 Barbados dollars. CRAZY!!!

    I know, right!!!!!!

When I gave up diet soda & AF sweetners (Splenda was my go to) my symptoms disappeared. Like the tingling in my hands & arms (my doctor suggested that I might have the beginnings of MS) and the daily headaches and IBS.

    Never again!!!!

But if your child is already sick how does it make sense to give them a toxic beverage? Please, learn to make your own. Even herbal tea is a million times better. Do NOT give in... that's what most of us do every single day because it's "easier". Every dollar we spend is a vote for what we want or are willing to tolerate in our lives. I refuse to accept poisonous substances that are put in products for children. NO.

I think when I bought it, it might have had one preservative, possibly potassium sorbate or something. But knowing what I know now, there is no need to buy that stuff at all. I just can't understand giving a sick kid something toxic. Herbal tea, bone broth, coconut water, with some natural sea salt, bit of raw honey, etc.... anything is better than Pedialyte. Even just plain water with sea salt and sugar.
  • It is pretty gross, and it doesn't even taste so great. I'd sooner give my kiddo Gatorade. Thankfully he likes coconut water and bone broth when he's sick, though, and we can skip the pedialyte.
  • Speaking of bone broth, can I buy beef bones somewhere? I don't eat a whole lot of meat, but using the bones in soup would be mighty tasty!

My daughter's first ped told us to not use Johnson's and Johnson's. For pedialyte, I always grabbed the clear unflavored one, I'm sure it's not too much better. Now I would definitely start with some coconut water and go from there.

I never use Pedialyte. I just don't think that a sick kid needs more artificial things. We usually stick with water, coconut water, or tea. Then again I never had it growing up either, so that was what I did even before I started eating more primal.
