Plank ups

I started week 4 today. For the life of me I cannot do a plank up in proper form. I am fine if my hands are closer to my head but if I try to put my hand under my shoulder I have an extremely hard time pushing up. I can do every other move but I am afraid that I will be moving on without getting through those damn plank ups.

Anyone else have this issue or other certain moves they really did not get through?

Wait until workout 7. You do a whole circuit doing plank variations including those. I definitely struggle. I don't have to modify a lot of the moves now, but plank ups I am still doing on my knees. I try to do a few on my toes but I have to go to a modified version to make sure I have good form. If I have to modify, I have to modify. If I can't do the exercises very well, I just hold plank while I recover. I feel your pain because I have a very weak upper back and shoulder area (not being helped by big boobies thanks to my mom), so anything involving planks and pushups is torture. But there's nothing wrong with having training wheels for a few exercises in my opinion. I modify only when I have to, but I still feel the burn. My other least favorites (so far . . . ) is surfer get ups and mountain climbers. No thank you Jillian.

I can do them properly on my knees but not on my toes. I figure not being able to master 1 move out of the dozens we do is OK. At least we are exercising!
  • Hi, I am on week 4 also, I can do plank ups although they are challenging, what I find really hard are where you go from standing to kneeling and then stand again? with weights? I can kneel down ok but just can't seem to stand up again without using support to push up. I am just amazed by how they do it? I also struggle with plank to crescent pose.

Yea, I am clumsy so getting into the crescent I am a bit wobbly some times. For the part where you stand up with the weights, I just take my time. I do not keep up with them at all. I figure more with good form is better than a bunch of really sloppy reps. It is tough though. I have a hard time keeping my arms completely straight with the weights. Only two more of each of these workouts though.

Keep going and you will get there!

I'm just about to finish the last days (workouts 11 and 12 1 more time) and I always hated the first days of the newer workouts as it was all too hard and when I look back at what I can do now compared to the beginning is amazing.

Good luck! It's my favourite workout program :)

I struggle with plank ups too. i do a few in correct form but then modify to on my knees. My balance is rubbish so anything on one leg is an issue for me too. At least we are doing something.
