Barium swallow

Just had my barium swallow this morning. I can't tell you how nervous I was just to have to drink this stuff.

I'm looking at a surgery date of January. I'm getting pretty nervous even though I still have a while before I get on that operating table. How do you guys deal with the fears and all the negative nelly's that happen to show up at the wrong times lol.

I'm having a few ppl already try to talk me out of it and *gasp* give me weight loss advice ( they are big as well).

xoxoxo

I went through that not too long ago. I had people saying things like, you are doing so good on your own, it's so bad for you to have surgery, and then... the weight loss advice too. I was thinking, seriously, I have lost almost 70 lbs, I think I got this. But, I was starting to second guess myself, and I hated that. Ugh. I had to learn to ignore, deflect, and stick to MY program, which is working for me.

One thing that REALLY helped me through a particularly difficult time was going to a support group, which should be available to you (if not find one!). I brought up the subject of negativity from people and it seemed like everyone there had experienced it, and they were so open and willing to give me advice. It was awesome, I have not felt that level of support anywhere else.

You are going to do great. Just remember when people say things to you, they have no idea of what YOUR journey is, and just let it go in one ear and out the other.

Thank you! I'm going to call on Monday to find out what support groups they have. I think I would need that once a week type thing just to get my bearings.

As far as the negative nelly's are concerned...I was very selective about who I told early on. Just my parents and one or two others who I knew were supportive. Nobody else got told until a few weeks before the surgery. To the few people who questioned my decision, I told them that it was recommended by my primary care doc and it was a decision I made in order to stay healthy. Yes it was a drastic step, but obviously I had tried the non-drastic measures and they hadn't worked long term. At that point they either shut up or started being more supportive.
