I had gastric sleeve surgery on Wednesday. I am feeling pretty good today, a little sore and a little tired, It feels a weird that the surgery is passed, and now it's time to move forward. Now I am just trying to mentally prepare to do things differently :-)

Congratulations on having your weight loss surgery! I had the Gastric Sleeve dine at the end of July. So far I believe I'm doing good. I found the first 2 months to be draining. Living on a clear liquid diet for a week after surgery was doable. Then by week 7, I was counting the days left to go on a pureed diet. I was running out of ideas and counting ahead waiting for when I could eat regular food in small quanties. I got to hate the idea of having more soup and jello. Last night I had a soup that a month ago I had to run through a blender. I actually enjoyed it last night! It's the same brand and exact same soup, but the whole pureed thing turned me off to it. I guess it's another pyschologically hiccup for me. Hopefully you won't experience it, but if you do....remember, "this too shall pass".

I wish all of you a successful weight loss journey,
    Janis

Unfortunately I have to be on the clear liquids for two weeks rather than the one week that I should be, because my surgeon will be out of office and I couldn't get a follow-up until two weeks after surgery. I think I will be thrilled by then to have pureed food! My biggest issue is that I am only 4 days post surgery now and I am already getting stir crazy! I am feeling good and I am not used to having nothing to do!

Ah, I remember the stir crazy days of liquids, which I also had to do for two week with my program. It will get a little better once you get to pureed foods. Good luck!

    Hello....

How are doing today? It's amusing to me that you're having trials with the clear liquid diet. For me, I barely had an appetite for over a week. What drove me crazy was the pureed diet. I still have an aversion to some of the soups I had to put in the blender.

If you're interested, I have an excellent cookbook I picked up on Amazon. It's for those of us whom have already had our WLS. Each recipe is broken down for yourself based on the # of weeks post-op. The recipes can feed your whole family and your quests too. All that I've tried already have been delicious. I've shared the book with my monthly support group and they're very excited about it.

I hope you're still doing well. Janis

    Hello......

I see on your post that your surgical date is rapidly approaching. I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with it. Let us all know how it went whenever you're up to it.

I'll be sending positive thoughts your way, or maybe it should go to your surgical team :) Janis

  • Janis...please share the title of the book you mentioned. New recipes will certainly help for future meal plans. Still on liquid right now with surgery scheduled for Monday, 10/21.

Looking forward to figuring out how to cook healthy, but with greater amounts of protein & less calories. Thanks for sharing!

Besides water,I was only drinking the Isopure, which to me is sickly sweet. I started drinking broth and that has helped break up that sweetness. I am pretty sure I will have an aversion to Isopure after drinking it for two weeks! I don't have an appetite at all but I can't wait to have something besides Isopure!

The excellent cookbook I found on Amazon is entitled, "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery", by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. It has over 140 fabulously, delicious recipes that are Low-fat and High Protein. I believe I paid less than $10 for the book on Amazon.

What I especially love about the book is that at the bottom of each recipe, you'll find specific guidelines for preparation and a recommended serving size for every stage of your eating program for all 3 Weight Loss Surgeries, and the recommended serving size for others that are eating with you (family and guests). Plus you'll see the nutritional information too. I've made a few recipes from this cookbook, and ALL of them have been delicious and satisfying.

Please let me know if you've purchased it and if you've tried any of the recipes. I plan on fixing tomorrow night "Cider-Glazed Pork Chops"; 4 ounces of cooked pork with sauce has 26g of Protein and only 257 Calories. And it sounds yummy.

    Have a great day,
    Janis
