A Little Stumped: Was The Cut Too Early?

Hmm. Got a not nice surprise this morning, doing my weekly measurements and weigh in. Two weeks into cut: up two pounds from last week, three total for two weeks. Measurements around and under waist are up. Legs up 1/2". I potentially have some gyn issues that are currently being explored that would maybe contribute, but I am a little confused (and disappointed). My weight is now up 12 pounds from original TDEE. Spent 8 weeks doing TDEE and thought I was stable. I am lifting 3x week and walking or slow running the other days, and a day of rest. Calories average 1900-1950, which was the cut figure.
Thoughts on this? I hate to keep cutting if I, in fact, am doing something wrong.
Thanks.

Your story sounds just like mine in the beginning. I did 11 weeks at TDEE (or what I thought was TDEE), cut 10% and gained 5 lbs. I'm now eating more than what was my assumed TDEE and the inches are literally melting off. I adjusted my figures in my Fitbit according to Haybales and my Fitbit is showing me burning 2500-2600 a day, so it is possible you have underestimated your TDEE and/or not given it enough time. I think my issue was both. My body had gone through a lot of abuse and it didn't appreciate me cutting the calories just yet. Good luck.0

Thanks--I may chat with you about figuring out the details via the spreadsheet and FitBit. I know we both use the latter. I admit to having a lot of problems finding my TDEE--that is for sure. So it is hard to know if what I input into FB is accurate. Did you use the first page of the spreadsheet (or the TDEE section) or did you use the other, more detailed ones?0

I had no clue about any sort of adjustments I could make to the Fitbit to customize it a bit more and make it true. If you haven't already, figure out your stride length. I read through this thread and learned to do all the adjustments:

If you do what he says on the "Fitbit" tab there will be a height to enter into the Fitbit in place of your height. To make it easier on me I converted it to cm and plugged that in.
As for figuring out my TDEE, I was using a HRM, but mine was a cheaper and less reliable one so I just started using MFP's calories when I log my workouts. It automatically syncs with my Fitbit (I don't ever enter anything onto my Fitbit, I let it all sync with MFP). I'm not too sure about my numbers, but as I have steadily increased the more difference I have seen.0 -
Did you change workouts too?
Or measure NOT after a rest day, but day after lifting?0 -
I did not change workouts, but I actually did measure one day after lifting, as I needed to move my third lift day last week from Friday to Saturday, and I always check my measurements on a Sunday morning.
I injured my back a bit on Monday after lifting, so I am taking at least this week off of lifting, if not the next as well, as I want to make sure I am really better before beginning the lifting again, so I will be curious as to what the measurements will be this coming Sunday. Just resting, eating at cut, and walking if it feels right.
One thing to note is that I have not taken a weights break in 12 weeks--after reading through the posts, I think it was long over due, yes? I didn't really realize that it was beneficial to take breaks every six weeks or so.
After this week, I will take another look at my TDEE and cut, if the increase in weight/measurements continue. I have found trying to get an accurate gauge of my caloric needs is really challenging.0 -
Eating at correct TDEE and deficit for less exercise, right? Not the same you've been eating while exercising.
Sorry to hear about injury.
Yep, a break is very beneficial, just walking during the normal workout time.
Then the week after your exercise break, you'll usually come back stronger and more energetic.
That's the week you take a diet break then. What better week to be eating more at maintenance.0 -
Yes, I am working at figuring out a new TDEE with less activity. Scooby says my TDEE should be 1955 and a 15% cut 1655 and my Fit Bit says I am burring 1950-2050 calories a day with my only exercise activity being walking, so they are pretty close. So, you are saying keep eating at cut this week but do a maintenance week next week?
Thanks for the help.0 -

You bet.
You'll probably be surprised how much stronger you come back anyway from a break.
Now eat more, and really watch the weight on bars increase.0
