Yesterday morning I did a interval training class at the gym - I'd never done the class before and it was brutal ! Now I ache ALL OVER and struggling to even lift my arms ! problem is I have a marathon to run on Sunday although I think I should feel back to normal by then (right?) is there anything I can do to speed up the recovery ? Should I just rest or shall I maybe have a gentle swim tomorrow ?

Thanks in advance

p.s please don't preach about how I shouldn't have done the class ect I am now fully aware of that fact :)

    Which Marathon you doing ?

Why shouldn't you of done the class, you weren't to know how intense it would be. Gentle swim sounds like a good idea to me, maybe use a resistance band or something to try and loosen up the muscles but other than that I'd say take it easy.

I would just follow your training plan as is, which I'm assuming includes some low mileage runs this week. DOMS is uncomfortable, but some easy runs will actually get the blood flowing and the lactic acid movin' on out. Just stick to your training plan and don't let the soreness stop you (even if it means that you're running a little more slowly today and tomorrow than you would otherwise have been doing). You'll be fine by this weekend.

If you're feeling really beat up:

    1) Ice bath.......pure torture but they help.
    2) Anti-inflammatory foods (blueberries etc) rather than a pill (but an Advil will help with the discomfort too)
    3) Keep moving

    Thanks Guys

Woke up this morning and there is some improvement but still a way to go yet !

I'm doing the PlusNet Yorkshire Marathon in York on Sunday, tbf I thought the class would be hard but not THAT hard,

I am going to swim tonight if I get chance after uni or maybe a mile or so run just to get the acid moving If all else fails its the dreaded ice bath ha
