Just one basketball injury can sh1tcan all your other goals forever!
In February I sprained my ankle playing basketball. After several months of physical therapy I still have yet to be able to return to Crossfit!!!!

Here's a list of injuries I had while playing ice hockey:
Concussion, from being checked head first into the boards
Cracked ulna from colliding with the goal posts - I actually did three training sessions and played a game with a cracked ulna, because the bone didn't break completely and i could still move normally and just ignored the pain (it didn't hurt as much as you'd think a cracked bone should hurt....). the result of this was damaging the sensory nerve in my arm.
Cracked ribs, either from colliding with the goal posts or from doing the gauntlet drill (where you skate between the boards and a line of players trying to check you into the boards) - didn't notice the pain or bruising until after the training session. Apparently I have a really good endorphin response.
Pulled hamstring and groin strain - actually this was more disabling than the above bone injuries, because I couldn't actually walk.
I had a trapped femoral nerve on one side and trapped sciatic nerve on both sides, due to the fact that the skating posture is unnatural and causes an imbalance between the lower back and abs. that made it hard to walk for a while, and potentially laid me off for a whole year, however I responded well to the physio and was back again within 6 weeks
Lost count of how many minor wrist and ankle injuries I got... apparently my wrists and ankles are skinny compared to the rest of my frame, so they're a vulnerable spot for potential injury
Various bruises, some quite spectactular, from things like being hit by a puck travelling at 100mph from slapshots in places where there's gaps in the equipment... I trained and sometimes played with men/boys, some of them could break plexi-glas with their slapshots
One of my teammates got a puck to the throat in one game, in spite of the fact she was wearing a neck guard, she still had to have a trip to A&E
So should ice hockey be banned then? Personally, I'm planning on playing again some time...0 -
Basketball and hockey are both competitive sports. Competitive sports do have a higher risk of injury than most fitness programs.
HOWEVER --It is not necessary to take part in competitive sports OR join a dangerously extreme fitness program such as Crossfit to be healthy and reasonably fit.0 -
I wasn't playing competitive sports. I was killing time shooting baskets ALL BY MYSELF while my son was at his basketball practice.
I've also injured myself riding bicycles. Not racing. Nothing competitive. Just riding a bicycle.0 -

Doctors and Fitness professionals encourage us to find an activity we love, to learn as much as we can about it and to jump in safely and enjoy ourselves.0

I heard that a moderate amount of jogging can enjoyably boost your fitness level.0

it's not necessary, but they're fun and it's also not necessary to have all this scaremongering about them or refer to them as "dangerously extreme"0 -

I broke my tailbone roller blading. Well, not while roller blading. When I went to sit down to take off the roller blades.
So I guess I broke my tailbone sitting down.

Actually, I once broke my foot while getting in bed. I was lifting myself up using the footboard, slipped, broke my foot. Sleeping isn't even safe anymore!0 -

If this had happened at a crossfit box, it would be one more reason crossfit is a dangerous cult.0 -
I thought yoga would be nice and relaxing. Peaceful, stress relieving, safe.
Then I got stuck in this pose for a week.
Ultimately, I decided to go with cliff diving as a safer alternative to either cross fit or yoga.0 -

Did you read how the founder of crossfit was quoted as saying that it could kill you?0
