I can only speak for myself, but I think it's normal. You just took a BIG first step towards changing your life and that is a big deal. There is a LOT of information to take in and a LOT of steps to take on top of making a huge decision. It's unknown territory and I think it's normal to be overwhelmed, but once you start going through the process and you learn more, it gets easier. That said, going through the process for me was exciting. It helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I hadn't seen that light for a while! Good luck :-)

    Hello there......

I'm not sure where you are in "this process". Would you mind sharing that with me? I'd love to be able to lift you spirits or let you know some things that helped me tremendously prior to having the Gastric Sleeve done.

I hope to hear from you, but regardless, just learn all you can about the surgery you're thinking of having done, or that you have already had done. Knowledge is certainly power, and it will keep your brain from getting scrambled, LOL.

    All the best, Janis
  • thanks so much for the insight .

Hope to hear from you .

  • You are certainly very normal...there is so much to learn and so many hoops to jump through before the actual surgery takes place. At least there were for me!!

A lot depends on your doctor and your insurance...

I've been working through the process since May and finally have a surgery date for Oct 21. But, it is worth it. It makes sure that we are in the right frame of mind, that our bodies are ready and that we are truly ready to move forward. Once this is done, it is done!!

I'm really looking forward to the surgery, now. There is so much information to process, I certainly couldn't have been ready a few months ago. You have come to a good site for encouragement. So many have shared their ups and downs. That has been very helpful to me.

It is interesting to see on this site that every doctor requires different diets pre and post surgery. I haven't read a single post yet, that said a person was not happy for having had the surgery. That has given me encouragement. Hope you find encouragement here as well.
  • Thank you so much for sharing your insight . I am definitely finding this site helpful .Good luck with your surgery .I wish you well .

Hi, I've been overwhelmed by all the pre-op and everything that needed to have attention but now feel like I'm on top of it all again and moving forward. I think you will feel the same so just hang in there and live in the moment. Looking forward to seeing the doctor on the 24th and getting my surgery date set!

The long process has been shown to provide the best preparation for success. This is a MAJOR. Change to your body, your mind and affects so many phases of your life. I facilitate a support group, and sad but true, not every person who has surgery keeps the weight off. Every one loses weight, but not everyone makes the changes to keep it off. Food was my friend that never let me down. It is a difficult relationship to change.

Don't be too frustrated or overwhelmed. Learn the process, read all you can. There are many books out there that provide I site to struggles post surgery. It is a marvelous tool towards a healthier life. Go forward. You can do this
  • Thank you for encouragement

  • Its very normal. I had my sleeve on June 18th and I'm so glad I did. My weight loss has been slow but I've lost 42 lbs since the surgery now and can exercise. It feels good.

During my journey I've asked a million questions..lol and found so many people who have given me such good advise. One of the best pieces of advise (I couldn't accept it at first but am learning to live by it) was to get off the scale and live my life!

Now that I've done that, my life is good and food isn't a major part of it. :-) I love to shop now just to see where I am size wise.

If you have questions feel free to reach out to me.
