Getting Serious

Have been on this site in the past but failed to follow through, lost some weight but did'nt maintain the discipline that this site gave me. Ended up in ER this past week due to high blood sugars, high calcium and kidney issues. It is time to quit fooling myself and get real. Am older and am hoping to find some support from individuals in their 50's and 60's is there anyone out there willing to give me a hand?????

Allen, I'm saddened to learn your health landed you in the ER recently. Not good. It's my hope though, this experience provided you with an increased level of awareness as to just how important it is to try and maintain the healthiest lifestyle possible as we age, and especially true for those of us living with D. I hope you're feeling better now.

The MyFitnessPal program along with this support group, as you mentioned, are fantastic tools to help us stay on track as much as possible. Try not to be too hard on yourself, we're human and perfection doesn't exist. Starting with small steps forward committing to achieving goals one day at a time will breed success into accomplishing weekly goals and before you know it those small steps forward become habits and positive lifestyle changes you can be proud of. I'm glad you're reaching out to this community for help. It's a great first step you've made, to be sure.

I'm in my mid 50's and diagnosed with D in 1982. My diabetic resume includes many periods in denial and acceptance throughout my career with this condition. I'm confident many of us suffer through periods of diabetic burnout as some in the medical field call it. Unfortunately, the damn thing of it is, no one can do it for us, but us.

Below is a book by William H. Polonsky Ph.D., I found to be extremely beneficial in addressing diabetes burnout. It's my hope it brings you as much value as it had to me. Follow the link below or do a search for "diabetes burnout" for further result.

I'm not as active here as much, however do occasionally pop in. I wish you much success and good health in the near future.
I welcome the opportunity to help you any way I possibly can. Best Wishes and good luck my friend.
