Infusion sets

I went live on the new medtronic pump three days ago. I had to change my infusion set today and had some major problems.
At first i felt wetness on my stomach and realized that something was wrong as well as that my blood sugar was high. I removed that set and put on a new one, took a correction bolus, waited 2 hours and my bs was even higher. I again took out the infusion set and replaced it for the third time today and took a shot from my pen to correct the high. I am using the mio and am thinking that its not for me. Does anyone have luck with any other of the available options? I am also thinking in my current state of chubiness that i might need the longer canula. I am so excited to get this working correctly but have been so frustrated so far. This is my first pump by the way.

I have used Cleo 90's and comfort shorts. The cleos look similar to the mios. With the cleos I need to run a 20% higher basil rate to get the same control I get with the comfort shorts. Cannula length on the Cleo is 6mm, I'm thin ish with some love handles so I went with the shorter length. May give the 9mms a try as I like the one handed insertion. However I do not like the fact that I can not see the insertion site - don't know if they went in correctly and can't see if they look like they are leaking or getting infected.

The comforts require manual insertion - for me this is a two hands job so not so easy on alternate sites but good for areas I can reach easily. I'm using the 13mm cannula and have had good luck so far. They have a clear window over the spot where it enters the skin so you can see if it is leaking or getting sore before your numbers get too out of control.

When you know you have leaked you should go directly to your pen to make up for the insulin that was lost. Do a correction dose by pen based on your current BG then change out your site. Keep an eye out when you change sites. My tslim reminds me to check BG 2 hour after a change. I also use a dex G4 and set my high alarm to alert if I go 40 points higher than where I was when I changed my set. I also tend to do a site change when I'm not digesting food so the post meal rise doesn't confuse the issue. Once I'm sure it working fine then I reset to my normal alert values. Also remember to set a temp rate of 200% for however long it takes you to change out. This makes up for the insulin you miss when you are disconnected.

Also don't forget that if you call medtronic you should be able to get replacements for the two sets that did not work for you. Ask if you can get samples of the other sets they offer.

Just an addition went online and looked at the sets offered by medtronic - the silhouette is actually the same as the comfort. Made by same manufacturers just labeled and sold by different outfits. Might consider getting a sil-serter to see if I can do one handed insertion on alternate sites. Just don't like the idea of placing a set where I really can't see it well.

Also if you are not using a piece of tape to tether your line near the insertion site you might want to try it. I learned very quickly that I can/will/have inadvertently yanked out my set when I'm in a rush to use the loo.

I use the Cleo 90's for my sets currently. I am actually going in on Wed to look at different sets. I am also very thin and have to use the love handle and back area to set them, but I can't set them on my own because of the placement. My boyfriend has problems with the cleo because tape doesn't like sticking to my skin, any type of tape, so we still have to reinforce the site to make sure it stays. But with the Cleo it seems that the adhesive on the plastic is stronger than the adhesive on the set. So in order to get it off without pulling the canula out is to use file clippers to get the set unstuck from the insertion device. If you are having problems I would talk with the pump trainer that you worked with to see if you can go in and see about different sets that you can use. Mine plan on giving me 2 of a couple of sets to try out for a few site changes. I have a T:Slim pump.
