I am just about 5 weeks post sleeve surgery, and the past couple of weeks I have had a little more trouble than usual sleeping. I can fall asleep easily and totally knock out, but then a few times I woke up at 3 am and was wide awake for at least an hour or two. Sometimes I just stayed awake because I get up at 5 anyway but it catches up with me by the end of the day. I know it could just be stress in general, but it didn't really happen to me before surgery so I was curious if anyone else experienced this after surgery?

At a year and a month post gastric bypass I still wake at about 5:00 am every morning--whether I go to sleep at 10:00 pm or 2:00 am. I drag through the day, but even when I try to nap I usually can't fall asleep. I have become used to a caffeinated water drink mid afternoon to "pick me up." Not a good idea, but it is what it is. I would LOVE to get 8 hours of sleep at night for a change! Without drugs.........0

After my diabetes went into remission, 5 of 7 nights I wake up at 12:30 AM and occasionally again at 3:13 I have been trying to find a reason 4 this. I believe it is changes in blood sugar and insulin levels. I checked blood sugar levels and found them to be fry low, not dangerous, doc advised me to keep a small piece of banana or a very small cookie by my bed. If I eat the cookie, I am back asleep in seconds, if not I can be awake for hours. Changing what I eat in the evening makes no difference. I am interested what others do. By the way sleep aids, RX or non do not make a difference. Even after surgery and a few nights on hard pain meds, this still occurred. Annoying!0

I sometime have trouble sleeping when I work out too close to bedtime. Both pre and post surgery.0

I've been waking about every 2 hours every night. I am 3 weeks post op...So maybe it is from surgery?? or blood sugars..haven't checked them in the middle of the night. However, my am blood sugar has been staying around 115 on average since surgery.
I, too, would love to get 8 full hours of sleep!!0 -
My day BS ARE ABOUT 90 now, so drop into 70's at night. Figured this out as a1c are in the 4-5 range, like that of an active athlete?0

I am right there with all of you in my sleep issues. I fall asleep quick and sleep hard from 10pm until 3 or 4am, then make myself try to sleep until I give up and arise at 5am, albeit refreshed but too early just the same. The only thing I notice that's different, is if I exercise or have a physically demanding day. When that's the case, I sleep longer - but only until 7am. On any other 'regular' day. I have that same 5am sleep pattern. However, getting up at 5 motivates me want to get some exercise that day, just so I can sleep longer and that's good. In the long run, I always feel better when I do exercise -> gets those endorphins flowing. :laugh:0
