Glove recommendation for you...

My winter gloves were looking a little 'worse for wear', so I was on the hunt for a new pair...

Anyway, after an age looking high and low at all the different variants; SealSkins et al I found an interesting solution.

Neoprene. They make over-shoes out of it, they make wetsuits out of it, so it must be 'good for purpose' right?

I started looking for Neoprene gloves.

Rather than paying £40, £50, £60+ I paid £10 for a pair of 3mm Neoprene Diving gloves... Mine are Typhoon gloves, but there are loads of other manufacturers out there...

Anyway, I wore them for the first time this morning & they were superb; lovely and supple with rubberised hand grips & my hands lovely and toasty, plus there's room for a pair of liner-gloves if required! It was -1°C with the wind-chill on my ride this morning - No problems whatsoever!

If it is really cold where you are, you could always opt for 5mm Neoprene...

Cheap enough to give 'em a try ;o)

Chapeau!

I like neoprene gloves, just wish they didn't stink so bloody bad after a couple of rides. Even though I almost always wear liner-gloves with 'em they just HONK...

They are good though - not even the slightest bit waterproof of course, but warm and wet is fine while-ever you're above zero.
  • Any idea if they sell those in the US?

I'm sure they will somewhere - dive shops etc... - the neoprene one's I have are the castelli diluvio gloves... a friend bought me them as a christmas present last year - there's no way I'd spend that much on gloves

Duly noted although my Louis Garneau gloves are doing pretty good so far. My shoe Pearl Izumi covers are neoprene and entirely windproof so it makes sense.

I just got a pair of these from eBay:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/160938324933?var=460142082234&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I have used them on just below freezing rides and was pleased with them, no breeze on the fingers. I rode them in the rain for the first time today (cool, not cold) and am happy. They did great in the waterproof dept. also.

    Not bad for $16.

Have a pair of Walmart special Neoprene gloves and wore them into the teens last year. Only issue I have with them is the suck...they stay on tight when you sweat in them. Plus getting them to dry out is a task unless you roll them inside out (which is a task on it's own!) Wore them in clear and snowy weather last year and realized I just like my wool mittens far better.
