Eating at friends' houses

Tonight I had dinner at a friend's house she knows I'm gluten free but doesn't really get that gluten is in more than beef and pasta. She called to ask if I could eat egg noodles, negative. I said no and she said "ok ill make potatoes, but you should probably pick up a GF dessert". So I said, "no worries I'm eating low carb so I won't need desert."

So I get there and dinner is this crockpot concoction off of Pinterest consisting of beef, mushrooms, carrots and a gravy bi asked what was in it-beef stock, cream of mushroom soup, onion soup mix, and a can of sprite *face palm*. And she served me so yep, potatoes too. So not only was the meal NOT carb friendly, but it was far from gluten free :( I have celiac disease so this is bad news and ill likely feel like *kitten* later. But she's a close friend and is sensitive. I honestly felt like I had no choice but to eat what was on my plate, which was 5 mini potatoes (OMG side note but the cutest little potatoes ever!) and about a cup of the beef mixture. I ate the beef and mushrooms and left the sauce.

So Fx I don't get too sick and I'm not thrown out of ketosis!

How do you manage dining at friends's houses when you're eating low carb/keto?

I know it's hard but just be honest. Tell her how much you appreciate her making you a meal but your disease is very painful/dangerous, educate her a little about what is & isn't safe for you. Then maybe make a delicious gluten-free meal for her sometime?

My friends all know what I'm doing. My wife says I'm an *kitten* about it but unless you tell them what you can and can't eat, how would they know? Now my wife is low carbing and realizes where I have been coming from.

There is almost always something low carb friendly. Cheese, stuff on the veggie tray, whatever meat they are serving. I haven't had many problems.

My band did a gig where they served us a boxed dinner while the guests were eating. I had told the organizer I needed lo carb, she said they were having wraps, which I figured I could eat a tortilla. Open the box- turkey sandwich on a Kaiser roll... :( Luckily I had room for the roll that day, and boy was it good! I left the potato chips, orange, and cookies for the other guys.

How about making a potluck l/c dish to bring along and share with your friend? That way at least you would not go hungry ;)
Lately when I socialize, I have eaten some extra carbs that were just too good to pass up, but of course I did not lose for days afterward. I don't have allergies or illness, though. If I were to feel sick from eating carbs, I probably would be more of a tiresome *kitten*, too!
