November; how can we avoid too much drink?

What is your method? Do you keep a rein on your drinking or does will power vanish like the evening light?
I am 99.9% alcohol free. I have had a beer when it is exceptional but that has been 4 times in the last year. I need to avoid alcohol since it interferes with my meds (lithium and wellbutrin), but once in a while my self-control looks the other way.
Of course the next day is when my depression and pessimism are at their worst - I gotta learn. It is trite but true: Healthy feels better than anything tastes.
Good luck to you and your goals! And a Happy Thanksgiving. I am grateful for MFP and the good things I learn here from good people.

Alcohol is the weakest link in my chain. After my first drink, a second seems normal. And, after that . . . all knowledge, wisdom, and control evaporates into thin air.
What works for me is not to have the first drink unless I am at a dinner party (or its a celebration like Thanksgiving). There, my technique is to postpone the first drink at least by an hour (or until half way through the evening).
For me, alcohol is a double-edged sword. Not only is it empty calories, ever since I started counting calories, alcohol makes me sick the day after. But, the biggest issue for me is that, once inside the body, alcohol halts protein synthesis completely. I work too hard and eat like a monk . . . yet, once in two weeks, I cannot get myself to say no to the dark beverage. :-/0
