Week 5, Day 3... I did it!

"I only run when chasing my 2-year-old and 4-year-old" has been my standard phrase, along with, "Oh, I don't run. I get tired driving those distances..." Now, I'm going to have to change my standard responses. Because I ran tonight. I can actually do this. I can't claim "runner" yet, but I just finished the dreaded (for me, at least) Week 5, Day 3. I'm running my very first 5k race in December (the "Hot Chocolate Run for Safe Passage" in Northampton, MA, which benefits an organization that works with survivors of domestic violence). I am proud to be participating but all along have been scared that I might not be able to train enough to run it. I've changed my mind, and my mindset, now. I. CAN. DO. IT.

You are so awesome! If you run, you are a runner. There is no qualifying exam! If any did exist, you would have passed it with W5D3, so it's official, welcome to the club! :)

Now you can chase your 2 and 4 year old when they are 4 and 6 and on bicycles :) Not that my kids test my ability to do that... at all... ever.

    Yay!!!! Rock on!

Last night I did the hokey pokey with my three and half year old on my shoulders. And then she and my two-year-old chased me through the house. It's amazing what general fitness will get you!

I didn't actually SAY I was a runner for quite some time. I alluded to it. For instance: "I started the Couch to 5k Running program in October." or "I completed the Couch to 5k program in December" or "I've been running since October and ran my first 5k in January" or "I've been running for about six months and finished my first 10k in May" or "I've been running for almost exactly a year and completed my first half marathon in mid-October."

I suggest you try out any of these statements to see how they feel. Try not to giggle with manic glee.

Getting through Week 5 Day 3 opens all of these possibilities to you. Same strategy: slow down and pace yourself. You are doing awesome!!!

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement! I'm on Week 7 now, and did a 2.5 mile run today. It was... dare I say... fun? :)

You are my hero! I am struggling with knee problems for the last few weeks, but am so determined to get back to being "a runner." Being able to say that is what drives me. I hope I can do what you did!

Yes. And you'll have bad days but it'll only get better over time.
