Any cyclist with 150 pounds to lose?

I started cycling at 325 with 150 pounds go lose. I have lost 70 and am hoping to find some others who are doing the same? Add me and let's reach our goals together!

That's pretty dang impressive! Just a thought. A fair number of bicyclists that are trying to lose that kind of weight are hesitant to join a biking blog. There is another thread, Move your *kitten* challenge where there are all kinds of folks that are heavier and trying bicycling to loose weight. You might try jumping on that side to get some folks to join you.

I think this link will get you there. They run a challenge that starts at the first of each month and you set a goal and try to reach that goal by the end of the month. It's a pretty easy going group with the only challenge being against yourself but a lot of support for getting there. The miles and goals are kept on a spreadsheet that they keep updated so you can see how your progressing on your challenge compared to others in the challenge.
  • hey there i did the same as you,
One morning I woke up weighed myself and I was 85Kgs I used to be 65-67 when I was younger . I am a short Guy 1.65m tall!
I used to be a cyclist in my teens and the logical step was to buy a bike and start cycling again, I got myself a MTB Norco alloy frame and my first outing was a realization that I was becoming a fat slob with no fitness, used to be very good climber due to my physique and I was exhausted heart pounding out my chest on a little crappy climb. Needless to say I was absolutely disgusted with myself. I had hit rock bottom...

I Realized I was not going to be able to get back in shape without some sort of a plan.I bought a Suunto watch with GPS
( Quest + gps pod) so I could track my exercise routine.

    - I started indoor rowing to get a little cardio happening, then cycling 7.5 k a day everyday then 15K a day now I do 20 with a pretty steep hill in the middle and its all dirt road, IMO harder than bitume road cycling .
-4 month later I am 72Kgs and already feel a lot better
I strongly suggest to use a HR monitor and Gps to track some sort of data . it will show you your progress and help keep you in heart zones during rides.
Also its data you can look back at and you can really measure progress. I just joined MFP and the calorie count associated with Movescount really complement each other.
you can peak at my Movescount profile and add me as friend if you want.

    hmm.. 150lb's to lose....

Nope, not me, not anymore. I've dropped 72kg (156lb) already, still got another 19kg (42lb) to go to target, but basically, I dropped the weight in the first 18 months, then took this year off from trying to lose weight, and concentrated on getting fit instead. I'm lucky enough that my Dr. keeps sending me periodically for Dexa scans which measure the actual Body Fat composition. Over the duration of 2013 I've lost a grand total of 1.5kg from my overall body weight. Not Great, I'll admit. BUT, I've actually lost 10kg of body fat in the same time - therefore, I've gained muscle mass of 8.5kg give or take any differences in hydration on the 2days I was tested. How have I done that... Simple - eating at a 0.25kg a weight defecit on MFP's figures, and recording calories from my riding, and eating back my exercise calories. Oh, yes, and riding maybe 10,000 km outdoors so far this year (and maybe another 1,500+ on the indoor trainer!)

Next year, I'm going back to a 1kg/week defecit for a few months to try and get nearer to my target weight, at least while I'm on "base level" training - as the Spring Classics and so forth kick in, and the racing season livens up, i'll step up to what I've done in 2013 over the summer... Might get under 100kg by next birthday - which would be nice.

Move your @$$ finally went to a group format this Dec. They have certaininly helped me to move myself more often. I come to this group with silly questions cause I'm such a non-die-hard bicycle rider that I didn't know what 'drops' meant. I had to ask Yin. Here I thought it was drafting on someone in a headwind and it actually means moving to the lower position of your handlebars if you a ride a road bike with those curved over bars. LOL.

There are a lot of unique terms to biking. Depending on what you ride, road, tri, MTB, the terms can be unique to that group. Feel free to ask, because there are almost no such things as stupid questions. Asking me if I think you should breed your mutt dog is a stupid question but other than that, most things are fair game.
