Paleo helped me SO much

For ages I had a weird issue where I felt like I couldn't breathe properly. I'd yawn constantly and get dizzy from concentrating on it. I had a morning cough like a regular smoker does, and I also had tummy cramps that felt a lot like hunger pangs. Nexium tablets helped, but the symptoms returned after the pack ran out.
Then I started eating paleo. And without even noticing, I realised that I suddenly had none of those problems any more. Except when I got lazy and ate something non-paleo, like a burger or pasta. Then it was back with a vengeance.
Its taken ages to pinpoint, but I've finally figured out that gluten is my enemy. A few mouthfuls of pasta and I can't catch my breath. But a pizza cooked on a gluten free base and a bottle or two of wine doesn't bother me at all.
It kind of sucks, because before I figured out how it was all connected, I was happy to still eat rubbish food occasionally. Now I feel like I genuinely can't do so at all any more. RIP bread.

I am very similar. I get severely congested and prone to sinus infections. GF I can breathe normally and feel great. It is funny I haven't been eating bread for so long that even when I'm off of paleo and letting myself eat bread, I don't really like it.0

I never cheat with wheat. Never. I don't feel deprived at all. You can control how you think about it. Accept it happily and enjoy all the non gluten delicious foods, or feel bad and always be missing them. I think the former sounds like more fun. :flowerforyou:0

I kind of wish that was the case for me. I obviously feel better eating Primal/Paleo and it's easier to lose/maintain weight while on it, but the difference is fairly subtle. For example, if I were to eat Paleo all week and sneak some pizza and beer on a Saturday night, I still do well. My weight jumps on Sunday morning but it's gone by Monday, and I don't feel like crap unless I've really overdone it.
This makes it easier for me to sneak cheats here and there and really does have an impact on my weight loss and well being in the long run. It also makes it easier to fall into bad habits.0 -

This. That's one thing I've always noticed on the main boards. Whenever going gluten free in general comes up, the people with Celiac always pipe up about how much it sucks and how deprived they feel. One of the biggest things I've noticed is that how hard it is to give up depends entirely on your mindset. If you have an "I can't have it" mindset, it's hell, but if you have an "I don't want it"/"I choose not to have it" mindset, it's far easier.I kind of wish that was the case for me. I have a similar problem. I don't get GI issues (or any immediate issues) from eating it, and my problems only show up after about a week of having it at least once a day. Once they get to that point, it's easier to stop, because I'd rather go without the crap and have clear skin than eat the crap and have crap skin. As developers say - "garbage in, garbage out."
I just need to learn to remember how much the skin problems suck even when they're cleared up. I'm getting there. Slowly (because I'm hard-headed like that), but I'm getting there.0 -
I think its harder when you have an auto-immune disease. when you cheat..your body totally rebels. I have Hashimotos..so eating gluten..even on a cheat meal...will do much harm for longer than a day..
Its out of necessity we do GF..not because its "healthy"..sounds weird I know..0 -
Very similar experiences here! Glad it helped you so much. I am back on the wagon....Doing Paleo, and mostly Whole 30 for 9 days straight.0
