Hi family!
As we enter into a new year of goals and aspirations, it's important to reflect and regroup! Reflect and remember our successes and strengths and regroup to fix those areas that we had problems mastering or even understanding!

We've all read and or heard the phrase "trust the process" THIS is a true statement, but with it comes a lot of frustration sometimes, and You may wonder, am I the only one feeling this way! NO! You are probably not the only one!

So in this post, tell us what is or was the hardest part of the process. Whether you've done a reset, or just increased your calories or whatever it may be or have been!

Team EM2WL is committed to supporting and helping in any way possible to guide you through "The Process"
Don't forget to visit EM2WL on FB, IG, Twitter, and Pinterest!

Thanks in advance,
Joan

    What an awesome, thought-provoking post!

Personally, I know I will NEVER stray from the EM2WL philosophy. Like many others, I "trusted the process", and yes, it works! It took me close to a year to get my metabolism up and running where it should be (from maintaining on 1.000 calories a day to currently maintaining on 2,100 calories a day...), but I gave it the time it needed and am now reaping the benefits.

For me, the hardest part of starting EM2WL was actually *taking that very first step*. I read, and read, and read the EM2WL forum before I finally got brave enough to actually go to my profile page and click that page to change my daily calorie goal ! (and I have to admit, even after all that contemplation, I believe I probably only upped it by 100 calories! ) I felt like I was stepping off a cliff!

After a couple of weeks, I settled into that calorie level and got brave and upped my goal by another 100 or so (that one took less contemplation... :drinker: ). I just kept doing that until I finally reached my TDEE.

Once I actually took that first step, it truly got easier. I sort of settled into a new routine and got comfortable eating more, and was actually able to change my focus from counting every single calorie eaten and burned to focusing on the types of foods I was eating (and making them healthier choices). I focused on lifting and getting stronger and everything else just seemed to fall into place.

Thanks for this post and the reminder that we *all* have to "trust the process"! :drinker:

    Great chance for reflection!

Leaps of faith / trust for me during the process:

I'd been eating my BMR and feeling hungrier and hungrier the more exercise I did. I knew I needed to eat more, but I was worried it would sabotage my weight loss. I researched TDEE and EM2WL and slowly upped my calories (now eating 2000 calories a day on average to lose). I had to -trust- that eating TDEE -20% would work, and tell myself I wasn't sabotaging, or over eating. This was just what my body needed, I started to lose weight more consistently and in the six months since I've learnt to listen to my energy levels and hunger, and eat mindfully. This process has actually given me more freedom with food, but it was a leap of faith to begin it. I've lost more weight in this six months than I've ever lost on past attempts, and I've done it without being miserable.

Knowing that this process was working for myself and others allowed me to make other leaps of faith, like learning to lift. I had to assess my pain levels and strength and decide whether my body was capable of taking another leap. I had underestimated my capabilities and strength, and never imagined how much I would love lifting weights, or that it was even something I'd want my body to do. That also allowed me to relax about cardio, and mix up my exercise even more.

I am new to this board. I need help, could someone please direct me to what to read to learn more about TDEE, etc. I'm concerned I'm not going about my weight loss as well as I should be. I am concerned my metabolism is too low and that eating less will make it even slower. I also do not want to put myself into starvation mode and/or lose muscle as opposed to fat.

Go to the top of this section in your browser where it says Message Boards >> Eat more To Weigh Less - and click on Discussion. Read through the stickies.

I would be more than happy to help you through the EM2WL process if you would like a shoulder to lean on :-)

If you go to the posts "stickied" to the top of this board, there is lots of good info there - particularly these two are great ones to start with:

    and

There is also the wwwEatMore2WeighLess.com website with lots of info and support. There is a downloadable Starter Kit available which might the best 5 bucks you can spend - it is great to use as a reference through the process.

TDEE is definately workiing for me. I see way too many people who are trying to keep their goal at 1200 and to me, that is too low. I'm currently at 1490 with 3 lbs to go. :)

I still am trying to trust this. I am 17 weeks in but I am not seeing results at all. I have gained a total of 22lbs since aug. 5th I am just frustrated. So I tried just eating when I was hungry and tracking mostly during the week. I hit 1600-2000 some days only 1700 1800. Of course I am not losing. I am doing weights 3 times a week for about 30-40 minutes. No changes in measurements either. Although I feel stronger.

So I still don't believe this will work for me. If I am eating normally why am I not losing? I am tired of trying to eat 2100 every day. What if I am not hungry?

Anyway that is the difficult part. I hate looking like this, very uncomfortable at this weight. So I feel stuck.

Yes it's difficult to see that scale continue to climb and it's difficult to stay off the the scale too, but try too.

So you are on week 17, are you doing a reset? Or how long did you reset for? Or Are you now eating at cut? Losing weight will only occur at a deficit. Of course we don't want the deficit to be to large, so at the most 10-15%. Also if cutting, being consistent with your calories. Do you weigh your foods with a digital scale? If not I do recommend this.
What activity level did you choose? Along with strength training, are you doing any type of cardio like HIIT on opposite days?
Have you recalculated your TDEE since gaining the 22 lbs?

I know I've asked a lot of questions, but with answers, I know we can figure this out!
    Sending this in PM also.

What an awesome job you have done working through the process! That feeling of properly fueling your body and actually having the energy for those workouts is priceless - congrats!!

Congrats! You are so right, there is no need to starve to lose weight, and in fact, it usually ends up causing the exact opposite result... Job well done!

I think the hardest part of this process is getting the numbers right. Having an accurate TDEE is one thing, making sure you are actually eating the correct number of calories is another. And of course this means weighing everything and counting everything. It's easy to be a couple hundred calories off. So if your TDEE is 2000 calories per day and you're attempting to eat 2000 calories per day but don't weigh everything, you could easily be eating 2200 or 2300 calories just by small inaccuracies that quickly add up.

I'd been maintaining for a long time and my weight started creeping and I was like, but I'm eating/exercising the same! When I really looked at the numbers it turns out I wasn't. It was a really small amount, but to be honest, it usually is...

This is so true! The closer you are to your true TDEE, the more those little fluctuations/inaccuracies matter -- less "wiggle room" I am in maintenance as well, and don't log any more, but every once in a while I stop and measure everything and log it *just to make sure*.

oh yes, you've said the truth here girl! Then recognizing that it could be because of not measuring correctly is a whole other ball game!!

Kudos to you for understanding this! :drinker:
