Training plans?

I am looking to do my first triathlon this spring and would like a training plan to follow. I'm currently a distance runner and I want to keep up my running base while adding in the swim and bike. I've looked at the ones on beginner triathlete and they don't really seem to be quite what I'm looking for. Anyone have something better/different to suggest?

Me thinks you're not going to find exactly what you're looking for out there. Either you're going to have to cobble together a few plans and tweak the running to fit your needs. I'd suggest 2-3 swims, 3-4 bikes, 3ish runs per week or hire a coach that will put together a plan to address exactly what you want addressed.

Take the BT ones and adjust the run to fit your needs. This will insure you ease your way into the swim and bike portions of the sport. Or you could hire a coach...like Scott.

LOL. FWIW I would tinker with the plans before hiring a coach. If you fall in love with the sport you can revisit that idea down the road.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll take another look at the plans and try to figure something out.

It should just be as simple as taking the runs and modifying the time/distance to suit your needs. Add an extra interval here or time onto a long run there. Be conscious of the recovery aspect however.

Joe Friel's triathletes training bible really is the best thing I've tried. It's so great having your training year mapped out and feeling that everything you do has a purpose. But I'm only going into my second year. Has anyone else tried it? Training starts again in a week or two! I'm v excited.

Have it sitting next to me now, but I've never used it to plan out my training.

For the bike aspect, I'm really enjoying the "novice" sufferfest plan, which would work to get someone new up to snuff in the saddle, I'd think. For mine, I hired a coach for the swim, and paired it with TI practice.
