Training for first half - Calories?

Hi All,

I'm currently training for my first half in Mid March. I have lost almost 40 lbs this year (after having my third baby) and have about 15 more to go. I'm 5'3" and I'm following the Hal Higdon "Novice 2" program - I'm in week 3 now.

My question is this: How much do you eat while training for a half? Any advice would be appreciated. :)

I'm currently doing daniels racing formula fir my fourth half and I've stayed at my deficit range. I do find that I'm super hungry after my long runs.

Food = fuel. What you don't want is not enough fuel for good workouts and/or to start burning lean muscle. You don't need to eat back all of your calories but a good chunk. Eat within 20-30 minutes of exercise.
  • You'll find that as your training progresses and your weekly mileage increases, you'll be hungrier. but you'll also be burning a TON of calories. I had my diary set to lose 1 lb a week and ate back all my exercise calories. I completely my HM in Nov and lost about 20 lbs while training. Just make sure you're eating the right kind of calories to fuel your body and you'll be fine.
