Do you log here, on the BM site, or somewhere else?

I've lately been getting really frustrated with the food database on the BM site. It's ridiculous how many foods are not in that database. I'm constantly having to create new foods for things that should be there. Today it was Silk Pure Almond Milk. How is that not on their site? Not a single Silk product is there, in fact. I've also noticed inaccurate foods. Since I am paying for that site, I feel like it should be updated, accurate, and complete.

Anyway, I came over here and tried logging here, but it is equally frustrating. I weigh in grams and too many items don't have the grams options.

I'm curious what most people here do? I tried using the MFP site again, but ran into the same frustrations.

I do all my logging on MFP and just use Body Media for doing activity tracking.

Same as Zephyrg here as well. I have not found a food site better than MFP.

I use MFP for all my logging. The main reason I have never used the BM site for logging is that I use the recipes section of MFP pretty religiously. I don't use a lot of pre-made foods. So I didn't want to lose my recipes by changing to a new site or having to take the time to "re-create" them. But that also means I didn't try the BM site for tracking food and don't know what it has to offer in that area.

Also... next time you need to re-new your subscription. Look for online coupons. I found one for 3 months free when my initial 6 months free was up. So I've been using BM for free since I first got it in May. :) I'll never just assume I have to pay again. So glad I looked for online coupons for once in my life :) hahahaha!!!

Anyhow... Do you use MFP with a smart phone or just a computer? If you use the smartphone app. You can scan the UPC code on your foods. Anytime I have any kind of trouble finding a food in the database or feel "lazy" and don't want to search I scan the UPC code. Another trick is using the My foods and My meals for saving favorites. So if you always use Silk products in your cereal. Save them together as a "my meal". Then it saves both items together and it's 1 click away from adding to your diary. :) And don't worry if you change things like portion, etc.... Because you can alter them once you click add.

As for the grams issue. I am learning to use grams these days. I've always used measuring cups and ounces because it's always been quicker for me. If you take the time to search... and sometimes you have to broaden your search... you'll find just what you need. So for instance Silk almond may be in the database, but it's listed as cups instead of grams. Just enter Silk and look through the options. Yes it takes time. But 10 to 1 you'll find the same exact product listed multiple times. Names will be different and the way it's measured will be different. I also use a kitchen measurement conversion website when I'm really at a loss. i don't want to "make" a new food when their are already 25 showing. I just need to figure out which one is correct for my amounts and comparing to the product info... which means converting to whatever is showing. It's not as accurate, but it is quicker than adding yet again another food... and I swear the few times I have added a food I can never seem to find it again. BUGGER!!!

Good luck deciding what's easier. :) And happy new year! :)

I do all of my logging here at MFP and then it syncs directly to my Body Media. As for the weighing in grams, not sure what scale you use - but almost all of them have a MODE option to switch between the two scales easily. The other option is to just use a measurement converter app or online. Good luck
