Plastics

I know there have been several discussions previously on this topic, but I cannot find them. I just celebrated my one year Surgiversary (blog to come) and my surgeon has recommended a body contour specialist to take care of the loose skin. Insurance will cover the tummy tuck (AETNA and BCBS). But after having complications with my RNY, I am at best nervous to have another surgery.
So I'm looking for info (good, bad, ugly) from people who have had a tummy tuck (or more).
Thanks!
Michelle

Sent note, but read this after. I did have complications during surgery. Developed allergy tp meds, was incubated and needed serious meds to counteract allergic response. Still surgery took 2 hours and need up ok. I thought hard too as I had reaction post RNY. The consent form for this surgery (18 pages) was terrifying, lots more complication possible.0

Oh Michelle - I am pondering plastics too - I am more concerned about the recovery time more than anything...after having hernia repair and having to start all over again I don't want to have to worry with another recovery and the time it takes to get back on track with running and working out. I may just let you be the guinea pig on this one and see how it goes. I don't know anyone who has had plastics to ask. Although I am ok with my body in clothes, I am going through another transitional stage where although I havent gained any weight I feel like the skin makes me look fat...I know crazy!!0

I am the one who had body contouring Oct 30. As of Dec 1 I am back in the gym and not limited by any exercise or work load. Feeling fantastic, and so glad to have done this, even with complications!, unbelievable difference in appearance and mobility, and good changes in metabolism.0

Shannon,
I hear you. It's my tummy flapping when I run to my bed at night that just grosses me out, I'm fine in clothes. I want to run the Marine Corps 1/2 in May and if I'm out for 6 weeks this spring I don't know if I can make it. I'll let you know what I find out when I meet with the good doc in January! PS You are doing a super job training for your marathon!!!!0 -
Ladies,
Finally got the cost estimate from the Dr. I posted elsewhere that I have decided to pass on surgery at this time for a number of reasons. Here are a few: cost - nothing would be covered by insurance; recovery time; and fear of complications;
However, I would like to share the pricing for those thinking about surgery. The doctor works in Richmond, VA for geo differential pricing references.
Abdominoplasty/Mastopexy/Augmentation Physician's fee $9500.00
Operating room fee $2280.00
Anesthesia fee $1863.00
Saline Implant fee $1750 vs Silicone implant fee $2250.00
Total cost of surgery with saline implants = $15,393.00
Total cost of surgery with silicone implants = $15,893.000 -
I had my Abdominoplasty (i think i spelled it right sorry if i did not English is my second langues) a year after my RNY and is very happy i did it. They cut away 4kg (That is 7lb) of skin and even though it was sore where my RNY wasnt i made it and just took my time to recover. It is costly but worth it.0

I am very happy with my abdominoplasty. And paniculectomy done Oct. 30 , 2013. However, I developed a big hernia that will be surgically next week. I am bummed, as problems keeping me away from gym. I was looking at the excess skin on thighs and wish I had done a full lower body lift. My tummy looks great, but flabby skin on thighs make smaller jeans fit poorly. Complain, I should not as health is so much better.0

My stomach and legs are not so bad to me, because I can cover them up. My arms are another thing. I've always had large arms, but now after the weight loss.... But I still look at all of this as a trophy of sorts. I look in the mirror and think about where I would be now had I not lost the weight. It's also a reminder of where I don't want to be again.0
