Can I get there in three months??

Is 3 months long enough to train for a half marathon?? I would like to do one and know there was one locally last April so would be keen to give it a shot this year when it comes around again on 13 April.

Currently I am starting into running and want to build up carefully as I invariably get niggles which sideline and irritate the HELL out of me! Ran today at gym - ran 5km deliberately slow (6 minute kms) as want to build up slowly and not bugger my tendons or joints as per normal. Have recently got shoes that suit my (assessed) running style so am hoping I can now get into running properly. I found the 5km pretty easy and could have run longer but thought should be sensible and not push too long and end up injured.

Has anyone trained up for a half or full marathon in a relatively short period without destroying themselves in the process?

3 months is plenty of time. You can find numerous programs online to help you get ready. Have fun! My favorite distance

Yes! There are lots of training programs for between 8 and 16 weeks ... so I'm sure you can find a 12 week program. Good luck! I'm training to run my first half in May. :)

Yep, even if you did it the Galloway method, you can definitely do it in 3 months, no sweat! Your longest run can be up to 10 miles. I would consult the Hanson and Galloway methods to give yourself some choices as to which method to pick for your training.
