What are you doing to meet your eating goals?

Those of us on diets, what are you doing? I'm doing kind of my own thing that falls under none of the diets out there right now but has aspects of many. I recently discovered my debilitating health issues were related to my inability to consume glutton. Turns out it is quite common in my family also. So besides eliminating all glutton I've eliminated all the carbs that cause fast and high spikes in the glycemic index. I eat things like sweet potato and quinoa but skip things like white rice. I eat 3 meals a day of around 400 calories as my goal and I try to eat a protein source with lots of veggies and some fruit. I'm eating limited dairy and try to make sure I eat only sugars that occur naturally in foods. This seems to work pretty good for me as long as I stay on track. My trouble isn't so much eating the right foods but when I'm out I end up just caving in and eating crap and I stress eat. Now that I know what has been destroying every aspect of my body it is better motivation not to cheat!

In the six weeks before Christmas, my life was so hectic I didn't have time for cooking and when I did I was too tired. The result was I was eating fast food a lot. One of my resolutions was to limit eating out/takeaway to a max of 4 times per month. Apart from that, I don't really eat fried foods and I'm trying to eat more fruits and veggies. I stopped drinking fizzy drinks a while ago but I've been cutting out cope completely since New Year. I drink the odd sugar free sprite but only about once a week. The rest of the time I'm on diluting juice or water.

I'm really just trying to make the effort to think with my brain and not my stomach ;)

I'm HORRABLE at drinking water, I hate it sadly. I'm forcing myself to drink it. I am not drinking any of my calories but I am on occasion drinking some flavored waters but trying to really limit it because of the artificial sweeteners. I am very big on flavor so at times it can be hard.

Not buying any crap. I work as a nanny though for 3 hungry kids and I do and HAVE been tempted to eat the things they have. I started bringing my own snacks and also pre setting what I'm going to eat/snack on for the day, it seems to help me. I have an avid love for potato chips though so I'm looking at alternatives via pinterest,.

I have been eating around 1200 cals/day on a Paleo diet... Down 10lbs since Jan 1st :) I also have been exercising an cut out alcohol, although I may make start to work in some wine every couple of weeks.

If you would like any suggestions for gluten -free cooking, my diet is grain and dairy free so you can add me as a friend to see my diary if you would like.

This must be tough!! You're right, planning ahead is so crucial! I plan out what times I will eat when Im at work and bring an extra snack incase I get stuck there late.

Thats awesome my diet is similar to Paleo. I was dairy free also because the DR was doing some diet elimination tests but looks like I'm ok for dairy and thank god I'd miss my cheeses! I'm staying around 1200 a day and it's much easier skipping the gluten!

I'm trying to drink a lot of water. I don't do soda or tea, so water is my go to drink but I don't drink much at all. It's normal for me to have about 16 oz a day. I pretty much let myself eat anything I want, but it's in moderation . If I a.m low on calories I make myself workout to get the food, or I don't let myself have it.

Same here! My calorie goal is 1200 per day and you would be surprised how fast I eat that many calories! LOL, sigh. Anyway, MFP definitely makes me more conscious of what I am putting in my mouth. I have noticed I am much more satisfied when I stick to eating paleo/primal than not. It's all in what works for you and your body. I know that eating gluten and drinking alcohol just make me hungrier!

I don't have a problem drinking water throughout the day. I think I am thirstier eating Paleo for some reason. I have a Brita filter pitcher at work to make the water fountain water more palatable.

Can I gush a second about my breakfast? First, I start with my special coffee: it has an egg and a TBSP of real butter and stevia. I drink it on the way to work on the train. Otherwise, I don't think I would have the energy to get into the office after working out. Trust me, it is way better than it sounds! LOL Around 10:30, I may get hungry, but most times, I can wait until lunch to eat. Sweet!

Another option is my sausage cupcakes. Ok, so I don't have time to cook in the a.m. because I work out and have to get to work by 8. So on Sunday, I make sausage "cupcakes". Little quiches in the shape of a cupcake (no crust) with avocado and salsa and bring them to work! Sooo yummy and easy peasy!

Am I reading that right?? You add an egg into your coffee cup and then drink it as you go? I hate coffee so it doesn't sound tasty but I can see the 1 hand appeal other then coffee flavored eggs haha. Does the egg cook in the coffee or pre cook?

    I have a few things:

On the weekend, I do a loose plan of what we'll be eating for the week. I check out the pantry and fridge to see what I have on hand, poll the family for ideas and come up with a few set dishes for the week. I grocery shop for the necessary staples. I leave a couple days open so we can eat left overs or just have a DIY supper (every man/woman/child for themselves). I tend to keep my breakfast and snacks the same and they are easy and portable. Lunch is usually dinner from the night before.

Each morning, I plan out my meals/snacks for the day and log them. I measure anything that needs measuring for lunch/snacks at work.

I build in a couple of meals that I really love mid-week and weekend. It give me something to look forward to and helps me stay on track.

I set the alarm on my Fitbit to remind me of meal/snack times. Once I get busy working, I would skip meals and eat very late. Eating on a more regular schedule has helped me control my hunger and cravings. When I am hungry, cranky and tired, I make poor choices.

I allow myself one coffee drink a day and it has to be unsweetened. The only time I get a sweet coffee is when I get a free one from Starbucks--so, once a month or so. The rest of the time it's water or green tea. Mostly water. I keep a cup with a straw and lid with me at all times. I try to drink one cup (16 oz) before I leave for work, one in the car, two at work, one in the car and two more at home before bed.

Yep, you read that right! The egg doesn't cook in the coffee or else I would have stringy egg whites floating around (which can happen if I nuke it too long). I put the egg and butter in a blender for a few and it just emulsifies into this smooth creaminess. Not eggy at all! Since blending it cools it off, I nuke it for 15 seconds to get it hot again and off I go to the train. More than 15 seconds and its turns into a McMuffin in my cup. yuck. Give it a try! You won't go back to normal coffee!

Doing the 5:2 fast diet. So eating only 500 cals on two days per week and eating normally in the other days. That means around 2000 cals for me ( that is actually less than MY normal which is around 2500...... Hence why I need to lose weight!) Did. Monday and .wednesday this week. Monday was easy, I had a busy day anyway. I ate nothing all day then had roast chicken, roast potatoes veg and gravy at 6.30 with my family. Wednesday was much harder, felt hungry pretty much all day, had snack around 3 pm, then a small dinner, had around 600 cals that day.

My weight was down 2lbs after the second fast day...... Let's see what it is on Monday. As long as I don't over eat or drink at the weekend I hope it will be 172.5....... But let's see.

I might have a light eating day on Saturday too! not a full fast..., will see how I feel.

@Redstanmenage Do you do any substitutions now that you've changed your diet to no (or low) gluten? What kind of foods do you eat?
