Weigh In January 14

Hi, everyone,
I'm not ready to weight-in yet, but as I uploaded from last night and logged my evening food, I came face-to-face again with the reality of working a desk job with tight deadlines and work that requires me to focus on a screen and a keyboard. Our big report is going out on Friday, and yesterday, I worked from 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. with hardly a break. So even though I made it out to walk and put in 8300 steps last night, my burn was around 1700 for the day. On weekends, when I move around the house, I can easily add another 2000 steps to that and get my burn around 1900 to 2000. But on workdays, 2000 is hard to achieve.
But I know that, and I also know the job and the hours and the stress are not going to change, so I have to do something different. (Do the same, get same results, huh? )
By the way--I did find that formula for determining your resting metabolic rate, and I'll share that when I get another minute to spare.
Hope everyone has an active, healthy day.

I'll take it. I'm not worried about that because I use 2 different scales to weigh in. One at work and one at home depending on where I am that week. Regardless of the lack of change, it's still a loss and I'm feeling awesome.
I passed a bunch of you on steps
Here were my numbers yesterday:
12423 steps taken
26 floors climbed (The La Danta Pyramid)
5.85 miles traveled
2110 calories burned
I'm heading out of my camp today to the closest city (Thompson) and I'm staying at hotel... so hopefully I can manage to get my steps in on the treadmill there!0 -

Well back in onederland if only due to being sick. Numbers will revert once I'm back but at least I got to see this positive after feeling so horribly. Home sick for 2nd day this week. Horrible coughing and fever.
Sarah stay focused and watch your intake to match your burn rate
Kelly take the reductions you've earned them.
Heading back to bed. Dr. Coming this afternoon.0 -
Hi Team!
Sarah, I almost never burn 2,000 calories in a day. I will look forward to seeing that RMR formula. I really wish you were on FitBit! With the steps you're putting in, you would be rocking the leaderboard!
Speaking of which . . Kelly! You're moving up fast! Good loss, too.
Lois, I had that cough and cold. It's kinda still hanging on. Congratulations on onederland!!
Light, where are you? I'm wondering if you're also sick as you've been dropping on the leaderboard. ????
Speaking of FitBit, Cheryl (who doesn't post here) has lost 3 pounds! She's doing so great!
Here's my weigh in:
SW: 156
LW: 136.5
TW: 135 ( -1.5 )
Had my trainer this morning. Off to get my steps! Have a great day.0 -
I'll do my weigh in tomorrow but I am here, hanging in the best I can. I came home from Grandbabyland on Sunday feeling like I was coming down with their cold and have made if official today. I can't breathe thru my nose and all I want to do is go to bed... but tonight is Biggest Loser and my last chance workout so I am determined to get on the exercise bike for at least a little while. I came to log foods and check to see how everyone is doing but really don't feel like being online either...
So, congrats to all who have had a weight loss... even small bits are better than no loss. Talk to you all later... I am so seriously tempted to set up the VCR and go on to bed now. :-/0 -
Awww.. sorry to hear about everyone being sick! I was sick just before Christmas with a brutal cold and it lasted for about a week and a half. At least it wasn't the flu though.
It feels good to move up that Fitbit Leaderboard! My struggle will be trying to get my steps in now that I'm away from work. Today I did everything I possibly could to get my steps in. Tomorrow will be tough because I have to sit in training all day. I'll have to make sure that I get up a lot and walk around. Luckily the hotel I'm staying in has a gym, so I'll probably be using their treadmill tomorrow night. Thursday I already know my steps will be low. It's the day that I have to travel for 8 hours home. When I get home I'm really going to try and go for a walk outside a couple times a day just to get my exercise in. Maybe I'll head to the mall if it's too cold and walk like Light suggested.
Get well soon all!0 -
Hello, all,
I still have not weighed and tallied. It's fear. I just feel heavier. My steps have been pretty good and I've done good with the no added sugar thing (Truvia on my oatmeal, no cookies, etc.).
Kelly, mall walking can be great. If there's one near you, take advantage of it. At the mall near me, another store (one of last of the higher end ones) is leaving that location. The mall continues to go downhill and I dread the day that I don't have it. It's big with wide hallways and little traffic--a walker's dream, but a retail owners nightmare, I'm afraid.
Sheesh, I promise to post that RMR formula tomorrow.
Oh, yeah. I have discovered that I really like parsnips. Never had them as a kid, and never thought about them as an adult. But hubby tried a pot roast recipe yesterday that called for them, and I think I've found another root vegetable that will add a lot of fiber and vitamins without a lot of calories. Try them!
Light and Lois--take care of those colds and feel better soon. g-nite all.0 -
Okay. Finally! Seven-day average stats for Wednesday through Tuesday.
Weight:
SW: 156
LW: 145.0
TW: 144.2
GW: 129
Avg. calories burned/day = 1807
Avg. calories consumed/day = 1475
Avg. Physical activity/day = 59 minutes
Avg. steps/day = 8178
Starting on Wednesday of this week, I upped the extra calories I add to offset mistakes or a bite here and there I forget from 100 calories to 200 calories, and I'm going to try to still maintain an intake of 1475. I used to add 200, but since switching over to BodyMedia from BodyBugg, I've only added 100. It's that ratty little mind of mine saying, "Oh, 100 is good enough." Baloney. When I emptied my office trash a couple of days ago, I found an empty bad that had contained some kettle corn. It was only 130 calories, but it was 130 calories that I couldn't find where I logged. Work is so busy, I'm not focusing as closely on personal things. And I know hubby didn't eat it. He cannot eat popcorn at all.0 -
I LOVE POPCORN!!! I have a popcorn maker though... so it's healthier than the microwave kind. I can't wait to get home and have some. I'm also looking forward to trying a couple recipes that I found on Pinterest
Hey guess what?! I'm first on the leaderboard for steps!!! I'm basking in the glory right now because I know that it'll go down.. probably starting tonight or tomorrow. It was my training day today so it was hard to get out and walk around. But tonight I'm going to try and get some steps in... even if I have to walk/run in place in my hotel room.
Great numbers Sarah!! Very impressive0 -
Sarah. I found this link for the rmr calculatorcalculator. HTTP://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.phpns
Sheesh and Sarah great reductions!!! Awesome. Overall everyone is starting the new year of headed in the right direction
Light- feel better.
Kelly congrats on taking over the leaderboard.
I've been down for five days now. Dr started me on antibiotics and the fever has broken. Headed back to work tomorrow. My email is blowing up. Trying to handle what I could from here. Going to take the rest of the week off from therapy and training. But I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.
Stay focused and keep steppin'!!!0 -
Checking in before I head to my trainer. Kelly, congratulations on the top of the leaderboard!! Keep it up! ( Although, I plan to be chasing you )
Sarah, great numbers and good loss!! You know, I love popcorn, but my tummy doesn't if I eat a lot. And I just can't eat a few bites and put it down, so I try to steer clear of it.
Lois, you have had a long road of setbacks. I'm so sorry you're sick. I'll be sending good vibes your way to feel better soon. I got that cold around the end of December, and it held on and on and kinda morphed into stomach issues too. I STILL have some leftover coughing and congestion. Take care. Light, I think I got it from my grand babies too! You feel better soon!
Have a good week all0 -
Here's the RMR formula, as promised.
Your weight x 4.3 = X
Your height (in inches) x 4.3 = Y
X + Y + 655 = Z
age (in years) x 4.7 = Q
Z minus Q = RMR
1.2 (couch potato factor) x RMR = maintenance calories0 -
Where is everyone?? Big report released yesterday, so now the "fun" begins as we field all the requests, questions, and comments. I am going to have to make sure that activity and eating well are made a priority next week. Today, I am going to focus a level of cleaning that I don't get done but every so often. Too soon to call it "spring cleaning," so I'm calling it "serenity cleaning," because when my environment is clean and orderly, my mind and spirit seem to follow.
Hope all is well with everyone. Lois and Light, hope the colds are getting better. Earl Gray tea steeped with a little minced fresh ginger in one of those mesh tea balls sounds like just the trick. Sooths throat, tummy, and appetite as well.
I did manage to get in more than 9,000 steps yesterday, despite the rollout of the report, but I still have "make-up" to do for Thursday, when I only got in a three thousand and some steps. I hope to have enough energy left for a mall walk before bedtime. The temps are still in the low 20s here at almost 11 a.m. and the wind is brisk, so I don't think I'll be dashing outside for a walk. (As I say that, I think that Kelly probably considers these mild temps for winter!) My blood is thin...okay??:laugh:0 -
Hi Friends,
Haven't posted in a couple days... so I figured it was about time. Sorry to hear that a couple of you are still sick! Not fun at all.
Things have been going okay with me. I'm back on my days off at home and I find it more difficult to get steps in when I'm home. At work, even though I have a desk job, I'm walking back and forth to work and I have a treadmill to go on after work. At home, I don't have a treadmill, and I don't get to walk to work 4 times a day. I just try and focus on getting in the most steps I can possible. Today I'm heading out for some shopping with a friend, so hopefully it shows in my steps.
I hope all is well with everyone.

Sarah, that RMR calculator made me realize how important exercise is! Without it, we just can't eat that much. Glad to hear your big project is finished. But, I'm sure the "fun" you mention will keep you busy.
Kelly, do you own any exercise DVD's you can do at home? Those motivate me when the old dreadmill gets boring.
Have a good weekend all.0 -
Oh, I forgot to mention that the last Biggest Loser showcased my beloved state of Utah very nicely! :happy:0

Hello again.
I forgot I had joined this group! I was posting up until the end of November, when I got an infection that landed me in hospital for two weeks! I had a UTI that I didn't know about. I know, how can you not know?! But apparently when you have diabetes, sometimes you don't feel all the symptoms. I felt a couple of times like I was going to the bathroom a lot, but I thought "well, I don't have any pain so I guess I am okay." Wrong! So the infection went crazy and I wound up in emerg with a bp reading of like 74 over 38. It took a day and a half, and 9+ litres of fluid to get my bp up to the point where they would take me on the floor I was to be admitted to. Yeah, and gained 10 lbs from my last weigh in at the gym on the Monday, to when they weighed me in the hospital on the Saturday. At least I knew it was from the fluid and would go away.
So if that wasn't bad enough, I then got a secondary infection while in the hospital - c. dif., if you're familiar with that, and it's what kept me there for about a week longer than I would have been. Basically it's discovered when you are on antibiotics and wind up with diarrhea for no known reason, and it's hard to get rid of, and it's infectious for other patients who are on antibiotics. Well, it got me a room with a private bathroom - LOL! Gotta look at the bright side of things, hey? (I live in Canada, so no, this didn't cost me a fortune, except for the antibiotics after I left the hospital.) The antibiotics were so strong they had to put me on probiotics too because it wreaks havoc with your stomach, and it was a few weeks after getting out before my innards felt normal.
I lost the water weight plus another 10 lbs, so that was good too, though the two weeks in hospital was misery. After not even feeling like eating for a such a long time, I am really struggling with eating too much at night, which I know is mostly boredom eating.
So, here's my stats:
SW: 300 ( on MFP. I had lost 50 lbs before this)
GW: 130
LW: 231
TW: 229
Change: -2
I will be happy if I see Change: 0 next week because I think it's going to be +2... !0 -
Hey there iquiltoo Good to see you back on the board posting LOL about forgetting you post with us... you've had a few other things on your mind with the hospitalization and recovery.
Between being pretty well slammed at work and being sick with a cold, I haven't done much. Mysteriously put on 2 lbs when I came down with my cold and have lost about a lb of it as I am using less decongestant so I am guessing my congestion weighs more than I thought. I haven't been able to breathe for a week, but no fever or sinus infection (yet) so that's good. It's just really hard to sleep since I sleep with a cpap and can't breathe thru my nose to use it. Uggh. I got up yesterday, logged in my food plan for the day and went back to bed. It was nice to be able to get a bit more rest but it sure didn't get my steps or calorie burn accomplished. I've been so tired all week, but still managing to eat smart, thanks to the homemade freezer meals I sock away
anyway, not going to figure all my stats up but the steps are down, the calorie burn is down, my calorie intake about the same...
LW 180.4
TW 181.6
need to get back to stepping it soon and adding an exercise program back to things again...
Congrats to the rest of you who are losing it I hope to be joining you again soon.0 -
oh, and btw, thanks for posting the RMR formula. It had been a long while since I had figured that out and it sure explains why I haven't lost weight this year... I am sitting at my maintenance calories for most of my days.
Not going to get much better without putting in added exercise time since my RMR at goal weight is only 1142 and maintenance is 1371. Uggh... time to reevaluate my permanent lifestyle changes...0 -
Jeepers...everyone sounds like they're sick!
Welcome iquiltoo! Nice to see someone else posting on here. Sorry to hear about all of the medical problems you've been having! Hopefully things are better for you soon!
I'm in freezing cold Manitoba Canada... literally freezing cold. It is -42 celsius right now here. It's been a crazy cold winter.
Sheesh - ya, I do have a couple of DVD's I could do. I feel bad hopping around my condo though, as I'm on the 3rd floor and worry about how loud I am with the people below me. The videos I really like are at work... so I'm going to have to bring those ones home and do them here. I'll try minimize the stomping lol0 -

Thanks, wired! I am in Alberta. We HAD lots of crazy cold, but now are getting lovely warm weather. The piles of snow are diminishing, but not disappearing as they normally would because this year we got 3x the normal amount of snow in December. Except tomorrow is supposed to snow, of course that is because I have to drive into the city for a dentist appointment!
I weighed yesterday, so my new stats are:
SW: 300 ( on MFP. I had lost 50 lbs before this)
GW: 130
LW: 229
TW: 228.2

Better than I thought! I thought for sure I would have been up 2 lbs as mid-week I WAS up 2!0
