Laura, that's great that you came across a good threadstarter. I hope you and others will always feel free to post a threadstarter, or just any quote or image or story that is inspiring. I can't imagine my gym with only 5 people (maybe at 11pm, lol), but yesterday was great and so was today--a nice, friendly crowd and not too many, and spread evenly around the equipment. Today, even the free weight section was fairly free (compared to the regular week).
Marla, I really hope your shoulder/neck gets to feeling well. Shoulders are a real trouble spot for me and they sure do set ya back when they don't cooperate, but ya can't rush the healing either.
So, today I did my new "the usual". I ran to the gym, did my workout (today was chest, shoulders, arms) and then ran home (except the last hilly bit) and stretched at home. I noticed doing pull-overs that my shoulder wasn't "clicking", so I decided to try lat pull-downs today (couldn't manage them last time). Well, it went fine. My shoulders are so strange, they have good days and bad days and I can't figure out what causes it. I've also discovered my left side (my tot-carrying side) is grossly stronger than my right side. Gonna hafta start carrying lil girl on my right side for awhile. Oh yeah, my son decided against the afternoon activity, so might take lil girl out for some playtime in a bit.
Have a beautiful Sunday!!0 -
Hello all my apoligies for not posting yesterday totality forgot about it....The last two days have been rest days I only ran and got into the gym twice this past week. This week I have a 10K tomorrow morning then planning on the SL 5x5 Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday this week. I will run on Thursday and Saturday then just some easier HIIT for after Tuesday's workout.0

Sherry my trainer has me do some band exercises (internal rotation, external rotation & sword) to strengthen the smaller muscles in my shoulders. I do them once or twice a week. They're not difficult but they help keep the muscles strong that support the bigger movements (like lat pulldown). I usually do 2 sets of 12-15 on each side. Can be done either alone (at home if you have a band) or as a warm-up before an upper body workout.
Enjoy your 10K run Tim!
I'm mostly taking an unplanned rest day. Turns out I have a sinus infection. When I went to pick up my antibiotic I stopped at the gym and did my homework from my trainer - the shoulder band exercises above, the band workouts I do for my hips & inner thighs, and low back - but skipped the cardio I usually do on Sundays.0 -
Tim, good luck with the 10k.
Laura, thanks for the exercises. I don't have bands, but that reminds, I think I can do similar to the second and maybe the first with a small handweight, lying on my side. But the movement of the sword exercise makes my shoulder "click". I have weird shoulders. My parents told me my entire life that I had "double jointed" shoulders (whatever that means). They said that because I have big dimples back there and my shoulders could move in ways that other kids didn't (very loosey goosey). I've never been able to do push-ups or pull-ups and had assumed it's because I wasn't trying hard enough, but every time I set out on a mission to be able to do them, I end up with a shoulder problem. It doesn't help that I have zero upper body strength. Right now I'm working hard on building my chest, back, traps, and 3 deltoids, hoping that just building some strength there will get me onto the right path. This is the exercise I had picked to do for rotary cuff support and I think it similar to the swords one, but for some reason I don't "click" when I do it: http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/Supraspinatus/DBFrontLateralRaise.html I put two extra dumbbell shoulder exercises on my schedule for home on my running day and I think you're right that I should add the rotation to that too. Thanks!!0 -
Tuesday I'll be back home and get back to my regularly scheduled exercise, but on Friday and today I at least got a run in. On Friday, I ran the distance I wanted, but it was just guessing and doing a lot of circling. Today I signed up with MapMyRun and planned the run before I went. I enjoyed it a lot more.
Interesting exercises, Laura. Did you get a new trainer? How you feel better quickly.0 -
Sherry when I Googled those there were images to do them with dumbbells too. I've known of other people who are doubled jointed but now that you say that I'm not entirely sure what it means, except that they could move those joints in ways that other people couldn't.
Donna, same trainer. I've been doing those exercises for nearly a year now and am pretty sure Jason will have me doing them forever. Glad you were able to get a run in.0 -
Today went for a 1.7 mile walk with husband. It was 50 degrees out! It was beautiful out! I hope to be able to exercise this week. It was just a crazy week. I had a sermon to prepare for Sunday - so it felt like that was all I was doing last week besides school. Now that is done I can hopeful refocus.
Great job everyone!
@Laura how do you do a split profile. I'm still trying to get a good before and after picture - not necessarily in my TKD uniform. It seems to take a certain courage or something about posting the after - although I'm not done yet.0
