Hi,

I'm new to the group so thought this would be a good little intro and get to know who does what and where...

I'm Carl 32, Based in Liverpool, UK . Been in the Gym for 3 years, Powerlifting for 1.

I'm a member to the GBPF (Great British Powerlifting Fed), and compete in the 93KG class RAW (Belt, Non supportive suit, Chalk, Wrist wraps. Knee sleeves are allowed, but I have non yet)

I've competed once so far, Passed all 9 lifts, hit 2 PB's and Qualified for the British Classics (Not that impressive, IMO it's an easy total at 93kG!) and have that as the next comp on the 13th October - First comp total (555KG) qualified me for an invite (545KG was required).

I train on a variation on 5/3/1 but I lift heavier than what the program says to (It works for me, and I'm not broken yet, so I'm sticking to it!).

Would be good to see who else competes and where, and if it's RAW or equipped

I'm less than three weeks out from my first competition (raw). It's going to be in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 12th. I plan on competing in all three lifts, RAW, in the 132 weight class. I'll be using belt, chalk, and knee wraps. I've not used wrist support for my bench yet (I will after the meet though).

I have been training 5/3/1 since May (with a trainer for about half the time). Before then, I was a hypertrophy enthusiast for about a year. My PR totals are 780lbs. and I'm hoping to break 800 lbs. at the meet, getting at least two new PRs.

Nice to meet ya Carl. I look forward to hearing more about you and your progress.

I'm new to these boards and ended up here after a sudden decision to drop weight classes. I dropped from 63kg to 57 in 3 1/2 weeks. I decided to stay with some of the eating habits because I felt much better low carb/low dairy.

I've been competing for over 5 years. I did my 18th meet a couple of weeks ago (the rapid cut meet). Typically I compete single ply but did this unequipped so I wouldn't have to worry about gear fit.

I'm in Canada and the IPF affiliate here has equipped and unequipped designations.

I've been chasing an elite total for a few years and hope to hit it at a lighter weight class in January.

I just found this group today after searching the site for a powerlifting group... wala!

Im training for my first meet, the West coast open in Corvallis, Oregon on November 30th. I'll be competing in classic raw (knee wraps and belt) @ 165lbs for the full meet.

Ive been following 5/3/1 for about 3 months after about a year of strong lifts and my own variations. My current training totals are 680... and hope to make it to my class 1 totals in the next 6 months to a year (I need to add 59 pounds to do that.)

So glad to have found this group!!!

Oooh! I want to fit in!

I'm in the 198 weight class, Raw, PA.

I started lifting in December of 12, and I have my first meet in December of this year. I am quite geeked. Best gym lifts are bench 132x3, dead 283x5, and squat 215x1.

I eventually went to compete in the 165 weight class, but it turns out I like lifting heavy *kitten* weight more than I like being lighter. I did manage to cut from 207 to 195ish so I don't have to compete in the SHW.

I'm from MI and went to college in GR- I would show you on my hand, but we're on the internet

I forgot to list my best meet lifts:

    Squat 145kg 320lbs
    Bench: 80 kg 176lbs
    Deadlift 165 kg 363 lbs

    All at 59 kg (130lbs)

I love to pull and could leave bench. For me, bench is the lying down rest between squat and deadlift

    HI!

I am entering my first meet in 3 weeks - 148lb raw category, both the open and the 45 - 49 masters age groups (it's never too late to start  ). Knee wraps are allowed but I have not used them before so will not try to for this one - just knee sleeves. I have not used wrist wraps either but am considering them.

    Best lifts:

    Squat 260lb
    Dead: 315lb
    Bench: 160lb (not paused).

I expect to be a ways off these as I did these on a bulk and 10lb heavier than I am now.

I have been lifting for about 18 months - running some version of 5/3/1 (Frequency Project while bulking and a modified 'standard' version while cutting) for most of it.

It's a small meet but as it's only 3 weeks away I am starting to get nervous/excited/nauseous.

Good luck on your first meet. I was 44 when I did my first. There are so many over 40 world class women that I think a lot of us have the best ahead.

Hi, all. I'm new to lifting, been at it about four months. Started SS 5x5, just moved to SL 3x5. I live in a beautiful part of the world, but it's a small community, and there is no powerlifting group here that I am aware of. So I'm 100% self-trained and YouTube taught!

Looking at lifting standards, it appears I'm progressing reasonably well in my weights, so now I'm thinking about formalizing that by doing a regional competition (either Canadian Powerlifters Union or BC Powerlifters Association). But I know nothing about the competition process, so this is completely new territory for me.

I'm also very intrigued by Olympic style lifting - but I don't even have a gym in town with a lifting platform so that's going to have to weight for a little while.

    Current 1RMs are....

    Squat: 230
    Bench: 190
    Dead: 310

    I'm in the 93kg/198lb class.

Raw lifter in northern VA, I train with 531. Did one meet so far (bench only) back in July. Won my class (220 masters) with an easy 275 bench. Next week I'm doing a push / pull meet, again 220 masters. I'm expecting to hit 315 on bench and 430 on deadlift although my back hasn't been feeling great lately so not sure on the deadlift but confident on the bench. I'll see how it goes, this meet is more of a warmup meet for another one I'm doing in late January right before my 41st birthday.

Back in the day 15 years ago or so,I was lifting about 100 lbs more on these lifts but sometimes the body takes a beating and you go backwards here or there. I guess that's why there's a masters division though. lol

    hello all....
i have my first meet 3/8/14 in Knoxville tn. ill be in sub-masters, 259 class, raw, SPF(Southern Powerlifting Federation). ill be no wraps no belt, just chalk and knee sleeves. right now in the gym my PB is 305 bench, 365x5 squat, and 415x1 dl as my 7th set of 7-5-3-5-3-1. yeah stupid volume. since then i have switched to my own progressive 5x5 program and it has made a noticeable difference. aiming for a 1200 total. i lifted hardcore when i was younger, but haven't in 20 years. been back at it daily since may 2013, so im really just getting started again.

    Hi again!

Thought I would post that I did do my first meet back in November. I had a great time and am looking to do more very soon (possibly a USAPL one next month). It was a bit of a rollercoaster as my squats and bench were a bit off, but I managed to PR my last deadlift attempt at 325lb. I was so happy when I saw the white lights!. Everyone was so helpful and supportive.

Since then I have managed to get my squat to 275lb so I am hoping that will translate into a better meet squat (as my best was only 235lb at the meet even though I had been doing more than that consistently in training).

    Hi!

I never competed. Was doing various kinds of strength training for over 6 years. but have been practicing the big 3 for a little over a year. My lifts (with belt) are:
    Squat 190kg
    Bench 150kg
    Deadlift 230kg

I also often max out on overhead press (I love that lift). My max there is 95kg.

All that on bodyweight between 100 and 110kg

I've been lifting for 9 years and competing for about 5, mostly push/pull meets with WABDL, etc. I've competed in the 242, 259, and 275 weight classes, most of the time lifting raw. I have a meet coming up in April (bench only, back is hurt so I can't pull deads) and I do plan on wearing my shirt for that one. I currently weigh 249lbs so I could go 242 or 259 for the meet. My best meet lifts have all come raw:

Squat: 455 (years ago, can squat more for sure)
Bench: 470 raw, wrist wraps only
    Dead: 640 raw, belt only

I hold a few FL state records with WABDL, RAW United, and AAPF. I coach high school weightlifting and I recruit some of the guys/gals for powerlifting competitions. Once you get a taste for competing, you want more.

I'm a UK lifter competing with BDFPA. Done 2 meets so far and been lifting for 16 months. Last weekend my results were...

S 105kg (British record, 1st place, best female squatter)
    B 60kg (2nd place)
    D 131kg (British record, 1st place)

@57.2kg bodyweight, no belt, no wraps (wrist or knee), no drugs.

Going to National Full Power next month and World Single Lifts in June. Aiming for some world records :)
